The price hike of 5 per cent comes as a surprise considering the recent corporate tax cut

  • This hike comes just a week before the launch of the Go, Go+ CVT variants.
  • Datsun has cited rising input costs as the reason behind the price hike.
  • Both models are offered across five variants -- D, A, A(O), T and T (O).

With manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Volkswagen, etc. offering major discounts on their model lineup in a bid to drive up sales amid a slowdown, Datsun has announced that it has increased the prices of the GO and GO+ models by upto 5 per cent. This is a surprising move from Datsun considering the recent announcement by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to reduce corporate tax from 30 to 25 per cent. Before the hike, the GO was priced from Rs.3.32 lakh to Rs 5.17 lakh. The GO+,  on the other hand, was priced from Rs 3.87 lakh to Rs 5.94 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). We will update the new prices as soon as they are communicated.

Datsun claims that the price hike is a strategic move due to cost increases in multiple areas. This announcement also comes right after the carmaker’s recent announcement to introduce a CVT variant for the two models by the second week of October. The new CVT will be paired up with the existing BS4-compliant 1.2-litre petrol engine, but in a higher state of tune.

This engine makes 68PS of power and 104Nm of torque on both models whereas the CVT variants will make 77PS and 104Nm. It is currently paired with a 5-speed manual providing an ARAI-claimed efficiency figure of 19.72kmpl for both the GO and the GO+. The new CVT variants will slot above the 5-speed manual variants of both the cars.

Both models are offered across five variants -- D, A, A(O), T and T (O). Some notable features include a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity and follow-me-home headlamps. In terms of safety, you get dual airbags along with ABS and EBD, and rear parking sensors as standard.

The CVT variants are expected to be offered in the top-spec variants with a premium likely over Rs 80,000. The GO rivals the Maruti WagonR and Hyundai Santro whereas the GO+ takes on the Triber and other B-segment hatchbacks like the Ford Freestyle.
