The wait is finally over as BMW’s much awaited mid-capacity twins, the G 310 R and the G 310 GS will be launched on 18 July 2018. Bookings for both are already underway, at a token amount of Rs 50,000. The G 310 R and the G 310 GS will mark BMW Motorrad’s entry into the sub-500cc segment in India.

The BMW G 310 R and the BMW G 310 GS share a 313cc single-cylinder DOHC liquid-cooled engine that’s good for 34PS at 9500rpm, and 28Nm at 7500rpm, paired with a 6-speed transmission. It features the same backward-tilted cylinder configuration as the TVS Apache RR 310. This layout lowers the centre of gravity, besides making the engine block compact, thus improving the dynamics of the motorcycle. While both the bikes ride on 41mm inverted front forks and a rear monoshock, the GS gets 180mm of travel up front, which is 40mm more than the 310 R. The GS’ rear monoshock, at 180mm, also gets 49mm more travel than the 310 R. Both the motorcycles feature dual-channel ABS as standard, on 300mm front and 240mm rear discs.

The G 310 R will lock horns with the KTM 390 Duke, Benelli TNT 300, while the G 310 GS will be an ideal alternative to the Royal Enfield Himalayan or the Kawasaki Versys-X 300. We expect the G 310 R to cost Rs 3 lakh (ex-showroom), while the G 310 GS is likely to command a premium of Rs 50,000 over its naked sibling.
