Force has revealed the 2021 Gurkha’s off-road stats, and the carmaker claims the SUV is better than its predecessor. That said, the new Gurkha will face stiff competition from the Thar. In this report, we compare the two SUVs’ off-road stats, which will be helpful if you’re keen on going beyond the usual city limits.

Here’s the necessary info:

Save for the water-wading capacity, the Thar seems more off-road-friendly in this comparison. The Gurkha’s 700mm water-wading ability is courtesy of the air intake snorkel, which comes as standard. Not just that, the Gurkha has slightly better hardware for off-roading as well, like the manual locking (front and rear) differentials and front and rear anti-roll bars. In contrast, the Thar only comes with an auto-locking differential on the rear axle and an ESP-based brake-locking differential on the front axle.

The Thar’s infotainment system shows crucial info like the altimeter, pitch, compass, tyre direction, and the power and torque used. It also gets a tyre direction monitoring system and electrically adjustable ORVMs, which make your life easier on your adventure.

The Thar’s 130PS 2.2-litre diesel engine is 39PS more powerful than the Gurkha’s 2.6-litre unit. The other engine option for the Mahindra is a 150PS 2-litre turbo-petrol. The Thar can be teamed with an optional 6-speed automatic. Its 6-speed manual also has one more extra ratio over the Gurkha, which will help you on the highway.
