Yamaha has officially announced the end of production for the YZF-R6 Race, bringing the curtain down on one of the most iconic 600cc supersport motorcycles ever made. The Japanese manufacturer confirmed on July 1, 2026, that it will build one final batch of the track-only R6 Race exclusively for the Japanese market. These motorcycles will be sold only through a reservation-based system, marking the end of a model that had already been limited to track use after the road-legal R6 was discontinued in several global markets.

Customers in Japan will get two chances to book one of the last YZF-R6 Race motorcycles. The first reservation window runs from July 1 to July 31, 2026, while the second will be open from August 1 to August 31, 2026. All motorcycles from this final production run are scheduled to be delivered on February 26, 2027. Yamaha has priced the bike at ¥1,375,000 (around Rs 8.10 lakh). With production ending after this batch, this is truly the last opportunity to own a brand-new R6.

The Yamaha R6’s journey towards discontinuation has been a gradual one. Yamaha pulled the road-legal YZF-R6 from the US market at the end of 2020 due to stricter emissions regulations and changing customer demand. It continued to live on in Europe as the track-only YZF-R6 Race, built specifically for racing and track days. Now, with this final production run in Japan, the legendary high-revving four-cylinder supersport is finally reaching the end of the road. While Yamaha’s current sportbike lineup includes the R7 and the upcoming R9, neither offers the same razor-sharp, high-revving character that made the R6 such a favourite on the track.

As a farewell to the model, Yamaha is giving the final YZF-R6 Race a few upgrades borrowed from the bigger YZF-R1. Based on the existing European-spec track bike, the final version will get suspension and braking components sourced from the 2024 YZF-R1. These aren’t part of a new generation or major update, but rather a fitting send-off with proven high-performance hardware. It also makes it clear that this is the end of the R6 story, and not a teaser for a new middleweight supersport.
