Volkswagen has just revealed its latest product, the Tayron R-Line for India, and shared some key details about it ahead of its launch. The new flagship of the carmaker’s India lineup, the Tayron brings with it a family-friendly 7-seater layout, a long list of features and a powerful engine. Let’s take a look at it in detail:

In typical Volkswagen style, the Tayron features a sharp, yet understated design. At the front it gets twin-pod LED projector headlamps, with a connected light bar and illuminated logo. You also get sporty bumpers with a massive air dam for a more aggressive look owing to the R-Line bodykit. 

From the side, the Tayron looks big, but premium. The profile is characterised by soft creases, with a sharp beltline running over the rear fender. It also gets 19-inch alloy wheels, along with gloss black cladding and silver trim running from the C-pillar and merging onto the window line for an interesting touch.

Look at it from behind though, and it resembles the smaller Tiguan. That is not a bad thing though, and the connected taillamp cluster offers a sleek and classy look with some reworked detailing for distinction. Just like the front, you get to see aggressive bumpers and an illuminated logo here as well.

The classy and minimal theme continues inside as well. Taking centre stage here is the massive 15-inch touchscreen, along with a backlit dashboard trim on the passenger side. You also have a clean centre console with a rotary control dial. 

Notably, the R-Line variant also brings with it sports seats with thick bolstering to hold you in place, and an all-black interior theme for a sportier feel as well.

Equipment-wise, the Tayron gets features such as a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 700W Harman Kardon sound system, 10-way powered, ventilated, heated and massaging front seats, wireless charger, 30-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control and an AR-based heads-up display.

It also gets safety features such as a Level 2 ADAS suite, multiple airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, 360-degree camera, all-wheel disc brakes and front and rear parking sensors.

The Tayron R-Line gets powered by a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which comes mated to a dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system as well. Here are the detailed specifications of this powertrain:

Notably, Volkswagen offers the Tayron with Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) technology for better ride and handling.

While we wait for Volkswagen to reveal the prices sometime next month, the Tayron is likely to be priced from Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). In India, the Tayron R-Line will sit at the top of Volkswagen’s range and compete with SUVs such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner and the upcoming MG Majestor.
