Volkswagen is all set to bring in the Tayron R-Line to India, and with its launch around the corner, we are sure you are curious to know more about it. But before you go ahead and bring one home, here are some pros and cons of the carmaker’s latest India flagship explained in detail:
Pros:
True to its European heritage, the Tayron has a classy and stylish design, especially for a 7-seater family SUV, with just the right mix of curvy and sleek elements. The R-Line body kit just makes it look even better with sportier bumpers, 19-inch alloy wheels and side skirts.

Pros:
The high-quality design carries on to the interior as well, and with premium materials used, it comes across as a truly well-built and luxurious space to spend time in.

Chauffeur-driven buyers will appreciate the easy ingress and egress for the second row compared to other similar-sized 7-seaters.

Cons:
That said, the third row can feel cramped and is suitable for kids and short adults only.

The ingress and egress for the last row are difficult, which further limits its usability.
Pros:
Being its flagship product for India, Volkswagen has not held back when it comes to equipment levels. The Tayron’s extensive list of features includes a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, an AR-based heads-up display, a panoramic sunroof, 12-way powered, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats and a 700W 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

Safety, too, is a strong point of the SUV with features such as a Level 2 ADAS suite, 9 airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, 360-degree camera and front and rear parking sensors. It has also scored a 5-star safety rating in the stringent Euro NCAP crash tests.

Pros:
The 2-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission offers a quick and refined driving experience, and with 204 PS of power in tow, enthusiasts won’t be disappointed.

Cons:
There is only a single powertrain option available, with no diesel, strong-hybrid or manual options, which significantly narrows its appeal amongst buyers in this segment.
Volkswagen is expected to launch the Tayron R-Line later this month, with prices likely to start from Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). It will face competition from other SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq and the upcoming MG Majestor.

The Tayron R-Line comes across as a refined, sophisticated and fun-to-drive family SUV, and is likely to see a lot of appeal amongst enthusiasts shopping in this segment. However, Volkswagen needs to ensure that it's well priced, especially with just a turbo-petrol on offer and a third row that leaves a lot of room for improvement.
