Just days ahead of the launch of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, the veteran bikemaker has introduced a brand new feature called ‘Wingman’ for its flagship cruiser – the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650. But what exactly is it and how do you use it? Read on to find out.
First and foremost, Royal Enfield Wingman is not an app by itself, but a new feature on the pre-existing Royal Enfield app. And at present it has only been developed for the Super Meteor 650. What it does is offer more features to make the rider more connected with, and informed about, their motorcycle.

So with the app installed you can access five key things
Live tracking - You can easily get the live location of your motorcycle wherever you are directly on your smartphone app. Even with your smartphone switched off, the Wingman feature can keep a track on your motorcycle.
Last parked location - Powered by Google Maps Navigation, you can easily access the last parked location of your motorcycle. Using GPS, it can show you the location accurately to 20-200m.
Trip summary - You can access all the essential information from your trip including average speed, trip route, sudden braking, speeding incidents and acceleration data right on your phone.
Vehicle Alerts - To keep you up to date with the real-time status of your motorcycle, the app gives you alerts about fuel level, battery percentage, and the overall health of the bike.
Grid Support - This is one of the most important features that allows the riders to get proactive support from the Royal Enfield roadside assistance team wherever they go between 9am to 6pm. Interestingly, the RSA is available 24/7 and you can use the Grid support without the app as well.

While new buyers of the Super Meteor 650 will get the feature pre-enabled (at an increased cost of Rs 6,500), existing customers can get the feature retro-fitted at their nearest Royal Enfield service center for a sum of Rs 6,500, plus fitting charges. At the time of purchase, the Wingman plan will be offered for free for five years, post which riders would have to subscribe to the plan themselves.

Now, sure, you get the trip data, but can you delete the rider history as well? Yes, you can, and at present, the app records trip data of up to three months only.
Another thing you need to know is that the device installed for Wingman is a part of the motorcycle and is covered under the actual vehicle warranty from the day of purchase.

Summing up, the Royal Enfield Wingman is an interesting feature which should make things more convenient for frequent riders. Apart from that, the prices for the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 start at Rs 3,60,899 and go up to Rs 3,91,346 (ex-showroom Delhi).
