The return of the iconic Tata Sierra is finally happening! Yes, the buzz around the Sierra has been there for quite some time now, and it has also been spotted testing several times. But the wait is over, and we can now say that the Tata SUV could be launched by the end of 2025! Just as Tata did with the Curvv, the Sierra could also be initially launched with ICE powertrains, followed by an EV iteration.
The Sierra launch is going to be significant for Tata, and ahead of its launch, we provide you with all the details and specifications of the Sierra and Sierra EV…
The good thing is that the upcoming Tata Sierra gets a perfect blend of retro touches, taking inspiration from the OG model and a hint of modernness as well. The Sierra has been revealed earlier, and several spy shots also confirm its design elements. The front fascia will likely feature a bold grille with rectangular split LED headlamps and gloss black touches. Just like most modern cars, you get an aggressively styled bumper. Complementing its SUV look, it gets a chunky skid plate as well.
Viewing it from the sides has to be its best angle. If you like boxy cars, then you will like the Sierra’s boxy silhouette that takes inspiration from the previous version.
To keep things modern and sophisticated, it gets bits like flush-type door handles and multi-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels. Large wheel arches with a gloss black finish add to the muscular look.
The highlight of the profile is how Tata has tried to recreate the rectangular rear window look with the upcoming model. However, it has a split configuration due to the five-door layout.
At the rear, expect to see connected LED taillights and a neatly integrated spoiler for a sporty look.
The EV version is expected to get minor tweaks here and there, including a different design for the alloy wheels, EV badging, and some changes to the badging and possibly some updates to the lower section of the bumpers.
The upcoming Sierra will be the first Tata car to get a connected triple-screen setup, which includes a driver’s display, infotainment, and a third co-passenger entertainment screen. This will remind you of a popular Mahindra SUV.
As with most Tata cars, the Sierra will also get a four-spoke steering wheel with Tata’s illuminated logo. While the overall cabin layout will remain similar, the EV version could get a different layout for the lower section of the centre console. Tata has used premium materials, and the overall feel of the cabin should be premium.

In terms of features, expect both versions of the Sierra to come equipped with a plethora of convenience and safety amenities. Apart from the screens, it gets a panoramic sunroof, a dual-zone automatic climate control, and a wireless phone charger. It could also get a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, and a JBL audio system.
The EV iteration should also get EV-specific features like V2L and V2V technology.
We expect Tata to offer safety features like level-2 ADAS, multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, likely front and rear parking sensors, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Tata offers multiple powertrains with most of its cars, and the Sierra will be no different. We expect it to get a new 170 PS 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine, and the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol unit makes 170 PS and 280 Nm, while the diesel unit churns out 118 PS and 260 Nm. Transmissions could include a 6-speed MT and 7-speed DCT.
The EV version is likely to be offered with multiple battery packs and is expected to offer a range of up to 500 km.
The Sierra’s return would not only be significant for Tata but also for the Indian auto industry. For some, it will be nostalgia, and for others, a unique-looking SUV among conventional SUVs. The Sierra forms a nice first impression, with modern styling, a feature-loaded cabin and interesting powertrain options. So while it looks good on paper, it will come down to how Tata prices the SUV. We expect the Sierra ICE to start from Rs 10.50 lakh, and the EV version at around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
