Top 5 Things We Loved About The Tata Sierra EV

Tata Motors has once again grabbed headlines, with its new Sierra EV making headlines everywhere for its uber-cool features, retro-themed styling and the performance highlight, which is the QWD powertrain. All of these factors have come together to pique the interest of EV buyers in the Rs 18 lakh to Rs 30 lakh price bracket, but does it live up to its hype? We got our hands on the Sierra EV, and here is what we love about it:

Styled With Pizzazz

The Sierra’s ICE version came back with much fanfare. After all, it was a design that blended the sleek modern lines with some iconic touches of the original Sierra. Together, both eras work well in their styling, and we are glad that the EV retains much of the same looks.

Yes, the nose now gets a blanked-off grille and revised bumpers, but beyond that, the boxy silhouette, chic alloys and an overall suave package make the Sierra EV look very much contemporary and evoke nostalgia at the same time.

A Lounge On Wheels

Another area where the Sierra EV feels unlike most of its competition is the interior space and packaging. You have a spacious cabin, including the second row, thanks to the long wheelbase.

Beyond that, the dual-tone white and black upholstery also adds a touch of sophistication, while the large windows and massive sunroof keep things bright. Be it chauffeur-driven buyers or family in tow, the Sierra EV is a lounge on wheels unlike any other electric car in this segment.

All The Tech On Offer

As expected from Tata Motors, the Sierra EV furthers its credibility with any gizmos you can think of. Cranking up the wow factor is the crisp and smooth three-screen layout upfront with a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and even a dedicated 12.3-inch touchscreen for the passenger. You also have the excellent 12-speaker JBL Black sound system, an expansive panoramic sunroof and some neat tricks like the ‘Summon Mode’ and Auto Park Assist that truly elevate the experience.

Powerful, But Friendly

Underneath its sophisticated looks, the Sierra EV is a beast with its QWD powertrain. The figures make it seem serious too, with a claimed 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 5.8 seconds and the 504 Nm torque on offer (which is more than what proper bulky SUVs costing more than twice its price barely manage). Despite this, however, the Sierra EV feels surprisingly easy to drive. Drive sedately, and there’s no unnecessary drama, no tyre squeal and no snapping-your-neck-when-you-don’t-expect.

Road Trips Made Easy!

If you buy a Sierra EV, chances are, range anxiety will be a thing of the past. With its huge 75 kWh battery pack, extracting 450 km of range will be easily possible without even trying hard. Drive in a relaxed manner, and 500+ km on a full battery is achievable as well. And when you pair this with the 120 kW DC fast charging capabilities and some serious off-road chops, it becomes an actually liveable and hassle-free tourer.
