Could we expect this to get a nimbu-mirchi? Just kidding!

The Mercedes-AMG G63 is no stranger to fame, fortune, and folks with a taste for fast, boxy luxury. But now, the SUV with a cult following across Bollywood, cricket, and business boardrooms is going even more exclusive. Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed the arrival of a Collector’s Edition AMG G63, a special edition made specifically for India, and it is set to launch on June 12.

This marks a first for the G-Wagon in India, an India-inspired variant developed by Mercedes-Benz India in collaboration with the brand’s global R&D teams.

What Makes It Special?

While Mercedes has not revealed the whole shebang just yet, teaser images and early previews have given us a glimpse into what to expect.

The Collector’s Edition gets a vibrant orange paint job, exclusive to this model. We can expect some unique visual enhancements that nod to Indian culture along with distinctive badging, custom alloy wheels, and perhaps even Indian-themed graphics or decals. It is Mercedes’ way of saying “thank you” to the Indian buyers who have made the AMG G63 a runaway hit here, and a symbol of luxury.

Inside, the cabin is expected to feature India-inspired interior touches, likely with a combination of custom upholstery, special trim inserts, and exclusive badging that marks it as one of a kind.

The Power Stays Wild

Mercedes won't be messing with the performance as powering the G63 Collector’s Edition would be the same monstrous 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, pumping out 585 PS and 850 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, sending power to all four wheels through the 4MATIC system.

So yes, it may have a custom paint job and interior, but it will still rocket from 0-100 kmph in 4.5 seconds and growl like an apex predator while doing it.

Limited Numbers, Premium Price

Mercedes-Benz has not revealed how many units of this special edition will be made available, but don’t expect to see too many of them rolling around. The Collector’s Edition will be limited, possibly to a double-digit figure, making it a true collector’s item (pun intended).

Pricing has not been disclosed either, but with the standard G63 priced at Rs 3.3 crore (ex-showroom) and the added bespoke detailing, expect the Collector’s Edition to cross the Rs 3.5 crore mark comfortably.

A Nod to India’s Growing Influence

This edition could be a statement by Mercedes-Benz, acknowledging India’s growing luxury car market and the G-Wagon’s almost mythic status here.

After launching several Made-in-India AMG models over the last few years, the Collector’s Edition represents a natural evolution, an ultra-premium product made for Indian buyers, and inspired by India.

ZigSays…

The G-Wagon already commands eyeballs wherever it goes. But with the Collector’s Edition, Mercedes is taking exclusivity up a notch. With just a few units expected and no shortcuts taken in the performance department, this is the kind of SUV that collectors and the who's who will be racing to add to their garages.

What’s even more interesting is that India-specific special editions seem to be catching on fast, just look at Range Rover, which launched the Ranthambore Edition last year and is now following it up with the Masara Edition, early next month. Clearly, global luxury marques are recognising India’s appetite for rare, ultra-premium rides, and they are delivering them in style!
