Honda has just introduced the City Sport, priced at Rs 14.89 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be available in limited numbers and will get only cosmetic enhancements over the regular version. The Sport version comes with the same engine option, available only with the automatic version and is based on the V trim of the Honda City. So if you are in the market looking for a sedan which has a sporty appeal to it, you might want to check out the City Sport!

The City Sport is positioned between the mid-spec V and VX trims of the City and comes at a premium of Rs 49,000 over the V variant.
The City is a sedan which looks athletic, but has never been the sportiest-looking car in the segment and was more focused towards elegance. With the Sport version, it might just appeal to those who want a car that does not really require aftermarket modifications to make it look cooler.
The sporty theme is set by the black grille up front, which gives the face a dapper look. You get a black lip spoiler and a black shark fin antenna, which adds to the sportiness quotient. Furthermore, it gets new multi-spoke Grey alloy wheels and black OVRMs to make the side profile stand out.
If you still can’t figure out if it's the Sport version or not, Honda provides you with a Sport emblem, placed just above the taillights.
The City Sport can be had in only three hues: white, red and a grey shade.
Moving to the interior, you get an all-black cabin, which goes well with the overall theme. For contrast, you get red stitching and a dark red finish on the dashboard. Soft-touch material is offered on door pads and a few other places across the cabin for a premium touch. The black leatherette seats also come with red stitching. The AC vents now come with black surrounds, and the red ambient lighting further sets the mood right.
The City Sport comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 4-speaker sound system, paddle shifters, push-button start/stop, auto AC with rear vents, and electrically adjustable outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) with an auto fold function. If you want features like a sunroof, an 8-speaker sound system, a lane watch camera, and a wireless phone charger, then you would have to opt for the higher trims of the City.
The safety kit includes level-2 ADAS, 6 airbags, hill start assist, a rear parking camera with sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a rear defogger.
While Honda fanboys wondered if the Japanese carmaker would introduce a turbo-petrol unit with the City Sport, they remain disappointed. The City Sport gets the same 1.5-litre NA petrol engine, which makes 121 PS and 145 Nm. Sadly, it misses out on a manual transmission and only comes with a CVT. Launching a sport version without a manual just feels wrong. Moreover, the CVT is also not a very sporty transmission and primarily focuses on fuel efficiency.
The overall pricing of the City ranges between Rs 12.28 lakh to Rs 16.65 lakh (ex-showroom). It competes with the Skoda Slavia, Hyundai Verna and the Volkswagen Virtus.
While Honda has got it correct with the aesthetics and the looks scream sportiness, the powertrain department says otherwise. It has the sporty vibe, but does it have the sporty drive? We doubt it. What do you think about the City Sport? Let us know in the comments section.
