These cars were crash-tested on the latest Global, Euro and Latin NCAP mandates and came out with flying colours

There has been a lot of chatter pertaining to the safety of vehicles in recent times. Crash test mandates have become more stringent than ever, and carmakers are being constantly nudged to prioritize safety. As a result, the number of crash tests being carried out has gone up and so have the five-star ratings as they try and live up to the stringent standards.

Let’s take a look at top cars tested according to Global, Euro and Latin NCAP norms in 2022 that got a full five star safety rating:

Skoda Kushaq

The Skoda Kushaq was the first model to be tested under the revised Global NCAP norms, and the SUV nailed the test with a five-star rating. It also boasts the highest child protection rating of any made-in-India vehicle tested by GNCAP.

Volkswagen Taigun

The VW and Skoda group seems to have the perfect platform as all its new SUV models tested under it as of now have boasted a five-star rating, which also includes the Taigun SUV. It scored five stars each for adult as well as child safety and it did so in the revised and more stringent crash procedures.

Mahindra Scorpio N

Tested on the more stern Global NCAP edict, the Mahindra Scorpio N aced it with a full five-star overall safety rating, which is a big leap over its predecessor’s dead-zero safety rating. However, in child protection, the SUV scored an average rating.

Volkswagen Virtus

Volkswagen’s new sedan, the Virtus, was tested according to the latest Latin NCAP mandates and secured a full five-star rating. The model tested was a made-in-India unit, although it was packing a few ADAS features – something that’s missing on the India-spec model. Even still, the same score can be expected for the Indian model when tested by Global NCAP.

BYD Atto 3

The BYD Atto 3 electric SUV was crash tested based on the Euro NCAP safety test program and secured a full five star rating with a 91% score in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 89% in Child Occupant Protection (COP), 69% in Vulnerable Road Users test and 71% in Safety Assist. The tested model packed all safety features available in the India-spec model. Sounds reassuring for a relatively new brand with a pricey electric SUV

Skoda Octavia

The Skoda Octavia aced the Euro NCAP crash test with a five-star safety rating. The tested model sported an estate body, although the acquired rating also applies to the saloon body style that we get here in India. That said, the model tested did have ADAS features on it, something that isn’t offered in India.

Kia EV6

Kia’s flagship model in the country is its safest as well. The EV6, which is Kia’s pioneering EV, scored a perfect 5-star rating as per the Euro NCAP crash norms with a 90 percent score for adult occupant protection and 86 percent for child occupants.

Land Rover Range Rover

The Euro NCAP crash tested the Range Rover and gave it a perfect five-star rating with an 84% score in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), and 87% in Child Occupant Protection (COP). The tested score is applicable to all variants of the SUV, so the India-spec model also gets a perfect score.

Land Rover Range Rover Sport

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport passed the Euro NCAP crash test with flying colours as it was given a full five star safety rating, scoring 85% score in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 85% in Child Occupant Protection (COP). Again, this rating is valid for all variants of the Range Rover Sport.

Lexus NX

The Lexus NX SUV was tested under the Euro NCAP mandates, and it aced the test with a five-star safety rating. The score is valid for all the variants of the SUV, which got an impressive 91% score in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 87% in Child Occupant Protection (COP). Its perfect score is down to its extensive safety kit, which includes a host of ADAS systems alongside eight airbags and front and rear parking sensors.

Safety is slowly but steadily creeping into the minds of people as they realise the growing importance of it. 2022 saw a high number of five-star safety ratings handed out, and that number is only expected to grow as time passes with all the new safety mandates being imposed and crash tests getting more and more stern. It is a win-win situation for us!
