If you were planning to buy one of Mahindra’s newest EVs, namely the BE 6 and XEV 9e, you might already be aware of the brand’s policy, which previously mandated buyers to purchase the company-supplied charger with it. Now, the Indian carmaker has amended the policy to now say that customers are NOT obliged to buy the charger that is supplied with the two electric SUVs. However, it’s subject to these three conditions:
If your home or office lacks provisions for a private charger
If you already have a charger that meets Mahindra’s safety standards
For families purchasing two or more Mahindra electric SUVs, a single charging point may suffice
Both Mahindra EVs get a choice between a 7.2 kWh and 11.2 kWh AC charger. The charging speeds with the AC chargers for the two battery packs are as follows:

Both the Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e support 175 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 20 percent to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. There are three drive modes: Range, Everyday and Race.
Mahindra’s born electric SUV has an aggressive design, featuring C-shaped LED DRLs and tail lights along with dual-pod LED headlights. Mahindra has also given it aggressive cuts along its body and 19-inch aerodynamically designed alloy wheels, and it also gets an option of bigger 20-inch units. Its interior flaunts dual 12.3-inch displays and a 2-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo.
The Mahindra XEV 9e, in comparison to the BE 6, flaunts a relatively simpler design language with connected LED DRLs and taillights along with vertically stacked LED headlights. It also gets 19-inch alloy wheels with an option to upgrade to bigger 20-inch units. Its cabin features a dual-tone cabin theme, a 2-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo, and a more modern triple-screen setup on the dashboard.
Mahindra has priced the BE 6 from Rs 18.90 lakh to Rs 26.90 lakh, while the XEV 9e costs between Rs 21.90 lakh and Rs 30.50 lakh (introductory ex-showroom pan-India).
The BE6 rivals the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara, whereas the XEV 9e will compete with the BYD Atto 3 as well as the upcoming Tata Harrier EV and Safari EV.
If you wanted to opt for a different charger unit, now you can do so, provided the above conditions are met. What do you think about Mahindra’s latest move? Let us know in the comments.
