Tata has launched the Harrier EV in India at Rs 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It is built on the Acti.ev platform and becomes the flagship Tata EV, positioned above the Curvv EV. The Harrier EV borrows its design language from the Harrier ICE, but EV-specific cues help it stand out. The electric Harrier gets a very capable powertrain, more of which we will be covering later in this article.

So if you are in the market looking for a well-equipped electric SUV, that offers a spacious cabin, then you should check out all the details of the Harrier EV:

Tata Harrier EV Design: Same Same But Different!

The Tata Harrier EV might simply look like a tweaked version of the Harrier ICE, which in reality it is, because the design language and silhouette is identical to the diesel iteration. What gives the Harrier EV its own identity are EV-specific design elements, especially at the front. The fascia looks modern and aggressively-styled with sharp styling bits. For starters, you get connected LED DRLs, and a blanked-off grille which gives it a minimalist look. The bumper has been updated as well and looks sharper than the ICE version.

The profile looks familiar, but the EV stands out with aero-optimised 5-spoke alloy wheels. The EV badge on the front doors remind you of what’s under the hood, or rather what’s under the seats.

Viewing both ICE and EV versions from the rear might get confusing, but that’s when the ‘Harrier EV’ lettering helps you in recognising what’s what. The rear features connected LED tail lights that have a familiar design. Furthermore, you get a shark fin antenna and a roof-mounted rear spoiler that add a hint of sportiness. It gets a chunky bumper which adds to the macho appeal of the SUV.

The Harrier EV is offered in four colour options: Nainital Nocturne, Pure Grey, Pristine White, and Empowered Oxide.

Tata Harrier EV Interior: A Familiar Sight

The Harrier EV’s interior will remind you of the Harrier ICE, and that’s not a bad thing because why change something that’s not broken, right? The dashboard design and layout remain similar here, and you get the chunky four-spoke Tata steering wheel with the illuminated logo in the centre. The interior colour scheme is slightly different from the regular Harrier, giving the EV version a different look and feel. You get plenty of soft-touch materials across the cabin, and streaks of well-curated ambient lighting across the dashboard.

Tata Harrier EV Features: All That You Would Need!

In terms of features, the Harrier EV offers plenty! It comes equipped with a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display, a dual-zone climate control, multi-colour ambient lighting, powered and ventilated front seats, boss mode, digital key, connected car tech, and a 10-speaker JBL sound system with a subwoofer.

The Harrier EV gets a unique feature called the ‘Summon Mode’, which allows you to move the car forward or backward using just the keyfob. EV-specific features include vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) technology.

Passenger safety is taken care of by 7 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), both front and rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake with auto hold, auto-park assist, as well as a 360-degree camera and a Level 2 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). In the transparent mode, you get a 540-degree view of the car.

Harrier EV Powertrain: Your All-territory SUV?

The Harrier EV boasts two battery packs - a 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery pack. The rear motor in the RWD version generates 238 PS, while in the all-wheel drive, the front and rear motor make 158 PS and 238 PS, respectively. The Harrier EV makes up to 504 Nm. The Harrier EV offers a claimed range of up to 627 km (MIDC P1+P2). It gets a multi-link suspension which helps in offering a smooth ride and good handling. It goes from 0-100 kmph in just 6.3 seconds. With charging speeds of up to 120 kW, it charges from 20 percent to 80 percent in just 25 minutes. You can get 250 km of range in just 15 minutes of charging.

The Harrier EV comes with an all-wheel drive system, and gets many off-road features including off-road assist, transparent mode in 360-degree camera, a boost mode which gives a quick supply of extra torque, rock crawl mode and mud ruts mode. Moreover, it also gets multiple drive modes like the Snow Mode and Eco Mode, something that we have already seen on the standard Harrier as well.

Harrier EV Rivals

The Harrier EV locks horns with the BYD Atto 3 and the Mahindra XEV 9e.

The Harrier EV will look to build on the regular Harrier’s successful recipe. While it does look similar to the diesel SUV, there are plenty of other factors that make the EV appealing. What’s impressive is that Tata has made the Harrier EV extremely capable by offering all-wheel drive and multiple off-road features.

Yes, the Harrier EV appears to be the SUV that you would recommend to your friends, but then you also have the extremely capable Mahindra XEV 9e lurking in the background! Stay tuned as we will be bringing out a detailed comparison between the two SUVs. Till then, let us know what you think about the Harrier EV in the comments section.
