The Design Differences Between The Tata Harrier EV SUV And The highlights

A big electric SUV or an equally large electric SUV coupe? What would suit your taste is subjective, but both the distinctive design looks equally attractive. The soon-to-be-launched Tata Harrier EV and its rival, the Mahindra XEV 9e with their respective body styles bring great looks for that matter. So, let’s dig deep and see what  the key differences in their design are:

The Tata Harrier EV’s specifications have not been revealed yet. However, since it shares a similar body style and design with its ICE counterpart, we have considered the latter’s dimensions for reference.

It is evident that the Harrier EV and the Mahindra XEV 9e are pretty similar in size, though the XEV 9e is longer due to its coupe-style design. It also has a longer wheelbase too, which should result in a more spacious cabin. On the other hand, the Harrier EV should be slightly wider and taller than the XEV 9e.

What is proven for the Harrier nameplate, and is also the case with the XEV 9e, is that both the SUVs are to command a strong road presence.

Design-wise, the Harrier EV and XEV 9e have a few things in common too, like their connected LED DRLs at the front and vertically stacked headlights.

What is different in their faces is that the Harrier EV’s grille and bumper have a lot of vertical and horizontal slat lines while the XEV 9e’s closed-off grille is kept neater, giving it a futuristic look. The position of the brand logo is also different. The XEV 9e has it on its bonnet, while the Harrier EV keeps it traditionally over its grille.

Move to the side, and the two EVs look a lot different as both have a completely different stance. The  Harrier EV has the traditional SUV silhouette, while the XEV 9e has a sportier sloping coupe-style roofline. The  XEV 9e’s sportiness is further accentuated by the thick body cladding that extends to the wheel arches. The Harrier EV has it in a more sober way.

The Harrier EV has traditional door handles, body-coloured ORVMs and redesigned alloys with aero-specific covers, compared to the more modern flush-type door handles, similar body-coloured ORVMs, and 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels in the Mahindra XEV 9e.

At the back, the Tata Harrier EV has connected LED lighting placed on a gloss black panel on the tailgate. It also has a shark-fin antenna, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a silver skid plate.

In comparison, the Mahindra XEV 9e, due to its dipping roofline, doesn’t carry a spoiler. Its connected LED lighting is inverted L-shaped, unlike the straight-lined lighting in the Harrier EV, which is a very signature element in many Tata cars. A silver skid plate also stays mutual.

The Tata Harrier EV is yet to be launched, upon which we expect it to be priced at around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). It might differ a little hence being at a pretty complementing range with the Mahindra XEV 9e. The top-variants of both the cars however could be pricier in Maharashtra pertaining to the newly proposed taxation in their new budget. You can check that here.

Both these electric SUVs mutually rival the BYD Atto 3. 

It will be interesting to see the battle between these two EVs. Both have strong brand backing. The Tata Harrier has a proven reputation under its nameplate, which has been with an ICE powertrain. The Mahindra XEV 9e has also drawn significant interest from Indians ever since its launch. Sure, both have distinctive designs, which could be a deciding factor.
