The Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport has been spotted in India at what seems like a hangar in Mumbai airport. The arrival of the car to our shores does not mean that it will be introduced here as it could very well be a private import or in transit to a different country. That said, who wouldn’t love to see a mass market hot hatch making its way to India, right?
Without wasting any time, let’s get to the heart of the matter. The Suzuki Swift Sport features a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine that delivers a maximum of 129PS and 235Nm of torque. It is teamed to a 6-speed manual gearbox for a properly engaging driving experience.
Put this powertrain in a chassis that weighs 970kg and you know that it is bound to be quick. Launch it properly and the Swift Sport will do 0-100kmph in 9.1 seconds. Keep the throttle pinned and the hot hatch will max out at 210kmph, impressive for a supermini.
Components underneath the skin have gone under the knife as Suzuki aimed at providing a more enjoyable driving experience every time the car is taken for a spin. The suspension has been stiffened up for tighter body control, while the steering rack is quicker for better agility. Plus, it gets disc brakes on all four corners for strong stopping power.

It looks meaner as well. The radiator grille takes up more real estate and drops the chrome strip from the standard model. Pair this with the larger housing for the fog lamps and you get a mean-looking front end.The hot hatch rolls on larger 17-inch alloys shod with stickier rubber and the reprofiled rear bumper with dual exhaust tips round off the design.
As mentioned earlier, this particular vehicle could have been imported to India for different reasons. But, we would love to see the Swift Sport being introduced in the market here in the near future.
