Kia has dropped an official teaser for the new Kia Clavis. The carmaker had earlier trademarked this moniker along with the Syros. This updated MPV will be launched on May 8 and some dealers are taking unofficial bookings. The Kia Clavis will be on sale along with the existing Kia Carens. It boasts heavy design revisions and is expected to pack plentiful new features. Here’s a quick look at the teaser followed by a breakdown of all we could spot in it.
Kia's latest teaser offers a striking first look at the upcoming Clavis MPV, and it’s clear the design team wasn’t holding back. The front is dominated by a blanked-off grille like the one on the Kia Syros and a rugged black bumper with a silver skid plate. It also wears LED headlights outlined by inverted L-shaped LED DRLs as seen in the Kia EV6. These are set in sharp, triangular housings.
The teaser also shows off some premium features. A small camera at the front, confirms a 360-degree camera in the Clavis. A large panoramic sunroof could also be spotted alongside a fully digital driver’s display which gave away the presence of Level-2 ADAS.
Apart from the sunroof and digital driver’s display, the Kia Clavis will likely come with additional features such as the dual 12.3-inch displays as seen in the Syros, dual-zone automatic climate control, powered co-driver seat with boss mode and wireless phone charger.
It might also have a 6-seater variant which could get features like rear ventilated seats for extra comfort as well as rear entertainment screens. It will also retain many existing features from the current model, such as ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and a powered driver’s seat.
Besides the 360-degree camera and ADAS, the Kia Clavis should offer six airbags (as standard), along with electronic stability control (ESC), and front and rear parking sensors for safety.
The new Kia Clavis is expected to share its powertrain options with the existing Kia Carens, the specifications of which are mentioned below:
Engine |
1.5-litre naturally aspirated Petrol |
1.5-litre Turbo-petrol |
1.5-litre Diesel |
Power |
115 PS |
160 PS |
116 PS |
Torque |
144 Nm |
253 Nm |
250 Nm |
Transmission |
6-speed MT / IVT |
6-speed iMT, 7-speed DCT |
6-speed MT, 6-speed AT |
The 2025 Kia Carens could have a starting price of Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be a premium alternative to the Maruti Ertiga, XL6, and Toyota Rumion and a more affordable alternative to the Maruti Invicto, Toyota Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross.
Kia’s decision to sell the Clavis alongside the existing Carens shows the Korean carmaker’s interest in the MPV segment. They decided to put forward a new product without cannibalising their own portfolio. For buyers, this means more choices within the same brand. While the Carens will continue as the proven option in the market, the Clavis will stand as a more feature-rich upgrade to consider.
So, Kia fans can rejoice as now you have two Kia MPVs in the market. Would you like to buy the new Clavis? Let us know in the comments.
