Every time we spot the 2022 Scorpio test mule, we discover something new. The latest spy shots show the SUV’s captain seats, leading us to believe that Mahindra will launch the SUV as 6-and 7-seaters to cater to a wider set of buyers. We hope both seating options are offered right from the zero hour.
Now, the specifics. The 6-seater variant will get captain seats in the second row, while the 7-seater will have bench seats for middle-row occupants. Also, currently, third-row occupants only have side-facing jump seats, which should not be offered in the new-gen model as it could adversely impact passenger safety.
That out of the way, it’s time to jog our memory. For the first time, the SUV will get an XUV700-like Sony audio system with roof-mounted speakers, touchscreen infotainment system (possibly with Alexa connectivity), dual-zone climate control, and a single-pane sunroof.
Passenger safety will be secured by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and electronic stability control.

The Scorpio will be powered by the XUV700’s 200PS 2-litre turbo-petrol and 185PS 2.2-litre diesel engines, but in a lower state of tune. A 6-speed manual will be standard, along with an optional 6-speed AT. Rear-wheel drive will be standard, while select trims will also feature optional four-wheel drive.
The wraps of the next-gen Scorpio will come off later this year. Prices are expected to start from Rs 10 lakh, pitting it against monocoque SUVs like the Hyundai Creta/Alcazar, Kia Seltos/Carens, MG Hector/Hector Plus, Tata Harrier/Safari, and the Mahindra XUV700.
