Since its launch in August 2009, Toyota's mainstream mid-size SUV has lived up to its very aptly christened title the ‘FORTUNER’, and till date has managed to sell more than 15,000 units, acquiring a 57% share in the mid SUV segment.
After seizing its booking operations for the Fortuner in July 2010, after a period of just one month, Toyota is now back on track at the start of the new year, and has now announced that it has re-opened the bookings for its Fortuner SUV, with effect from January 1,2011.
To meet the high demand of its Big Torqueing Genuis, Toyota has increased the production of the Fortuner to more than 950 units per month from the initial 500 units per month. This was the Japanese car makers first step towards clearing its backlog of 3,273 units, which Toyota has declared would require a period of three months.
Since its launch, Toyota has also changed the braking system in the Fortuner, upgrading it to Prado specs, being essentially larger now with thicker front discs. Toyota sincerely thanked its customers for being patient throughout the waiting period, and for the unprecedented response.
