Since its debut back in November 2019, the Cybertruck has attracted a lot of attention for all the good reasons

Remember when Tesla unleashed the radical Cybertruck electric pickup in 2019 that grabbed eyeballs, more so with plans to begin production towards the end of this year? Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a little longer as its configurator page revealed its rollout will be delayed till 2022.

A key point to note is that the message on the configurator website says “as production nears in 2022,” so it's not clear when in 2022 will Tesla commence the Cybertruck’s production. In fact, in a worse case scenario, customers that have ordered the Cybertruck could have it delivered to them as late as the end 2022 or early 2023.

While this delay is a bummer, we don’t think it’ll hinder the hype that the Cybertruck has generated. For starters, it's got a radical boxy design that looks straight out of Cyberpunk. The body is also claimed to be a tough cookie, with 30X cold-rolled stainless steel, and armoured glass that can withstand up to 9mm ammunition. The tough exterior is met with a premium interior capable of seating six passengers. It’s also decked out with features like a massive 17-inch touchscreen and Tesla’s signature autonomous driving tech.

The real party trick, though, is under the hood. Offered in three trims (single motor RWD, dual-motor AWD, and triple motor AWD) where the entry-level powertrain  boasts a range exceeding 250 miles (403km) on a single charge, with the top-spec powertrain capable of exceeding a claimed 300 miles (482km). The latter is also the most potent off the line, with a 0-96kmph sprint time of just 2.9 seconds. It also gets air suspension and claims to have insane off-road and pickup truck capabilities which you can read more about here.

Sure this delay isn’t a good one for the Cybertuck, but it's gotten a lot of pre-orders so far. Tesla claims up to 10 lakh people have booked the electric pickup. Back home, Tesla is set to commence its India innings with the Model 3. As for the Cybertruck, don’t expect an arrival anytime soon.
