- Spacious interior with top-notch material quality and attention to detail.
- Vertical wireless charger keeps your phone secure and within sight.
- High-quality soft-touch surfaces and unique design textures enhance the cabin's luxury.
- Air-conditioning vent placement is awkward and rear passenger cooling could be more efficient.
- Storage space is plentiful but unsecured, leading to potential messes.
Space & Practicality
- A longer wheelbase increases rear-seat comfort with improved knee, legroom, and backrest recline for a relaxed posture.
- Well-cushioned, supportive seats with ample thigh and lumbar support for long journeys.
- Extra space makes the backseat more plush and spacious, comfortably fitting three passengers.
- Boot space is a respectable 500 litres which is plenty for most needs.
- Slightly awkward seating angle due to battery placement raising the floor height.
Features
- Premium cabin with a panoramic glass roof and dual-zone climate control.
- BMW’s curved display with a 10.25-inch driver’s screen and 10.7-inch infotainment system.
- Wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
- Ambient lighting, wireless charging, and powered front seats with memory function.
- No heads-up display or ventilated seats
- Lacks a full ADAS suite, no adaptive cruise control or autonomous emergency braking.
- Some non-luxury EVs offer better driver-assist features at a lower price.
Safety
- Safety suite includes ABS, EBD, ESP, Traction Control, and Blind Spot Detection.
- Lane Departure Warning and TPMS for added safety and convenience.
- Auto-dimming rear and side mirrors enhance visibility.
- Rear-seat safety is ensured with a middle headrest and 3-point seatbelts with warnings.
- Lacks a full-fledged ADAS suite; only basic collision warning and lane keep assist included.
- No adaptive cruise control or autonomous emergency braking, features found in more affordable EVs.
- Also misses out on a 360-degree camera.
Performance & Mileage
- Improved range over the previous AWD model, making it a practical urban commuter.
- Real-world range holds up well, managing a 350 km trip with 100 km to spare.
- Single-pedal driving (‘B’ mode) is useful for city traffic.
- Confident to drive in city as well as highways, plus the light steering makes it easy to manuver.
- Confident braking with a seamless regen-to-mechanical transition.
- ‘Max-range’ mode helps squeeze out extra kilometres when needed.
- Slightly lower power and torque figures compared to the outgoing iX1 xDrive30.
- Adaptive regen mode can feel inconsistent at times.
Handling
- Sharp and precise steering maintains BMW’s signature driving dynamics.
- Balanced weight distribution enhances handling, especially around corners.
- 0-100 kmph in 8.6 seconds isn’t particularly quick for an EV.
- Front-wheel-drive setup trades some sportiness for efficiency.
Comfort & Storage
- Once it reaches higher speeds, the bumps and undulations are soaked well.
- Better weight distribution also translates to less body roll when chucking around a corner.
- The ride quality is on the firmer side; potholes can be felt and heard at lower speeds.
Verdict
- If you want an entry-level luxury EV without breaking the bank, this is the most affordable option.
- The long wheelbase means extra rear-seat comfort, making it a great pick for those who prefer to be driven.
- With a practical range and quick charging, it's ideal for city dwellers looking for a premium yet efficient daily driver.
- If you love BMW’s driving dynamics but don’t mind fewer features and a bit less sportiness in exchange for better efficiency and space, this makes perfect sense.
