2 years behind schedule, the Tesla Cybertruck’s debut seems like a ‘better late than never’ story

Elon Musk and Tesla had made big claims with the Cybertruck when it was first showcased back in 2019. And ever since, the timeline has seen more setbacks than the Marvel cineverse, with production delays and quality defects, which didn’t live up to the initial claims. But it seems like the tide might be turning for the Cybertruck as we’ve finally got a debut date! The electric pickup truck will debut in Austin, Texas (USA) on November 30, with the carmaker also set to deliver a handful units to customers.

We’ve seen multiple reports and images of the Cybetruck being tested, a few of them being rather unconventional. For instance, Joe Rogan shooting the truck with a bow and arrow to test Elon’s claim of it being "bulletproof to almost all subsonic projectiles."

Putting these idiosyncratic tests behind, it seems like the Cybertruck is finally ready to hit the public road. The first production model rolled out its factory in July 2023.

It’s not just the Cybertruck’s styling that stands out, but also initial powertrain options on offer, which include three battery options: single-motor RWD, dual-motor AWD, and triple-motor AWD. And while exact specifications are yet unknown, Tesla says the fastest setup will be good for a 0 to 96kmph (0 to 60mph) sprint in 2.9 seconds, with a claimed range of up to 800km. Sure, the performance figures might not be stupendous for an EV. But considering this is a pickup truck with some serious payload capabilities (1360kg), it has to be regarded as nothing less than remarkable. More details on it are expected on November 30.

A peep into its cabin shows a typical Tesla-like minimalist layout, dominated by a huge central 17-inch touchscreen system and a proper three-spoke steering wheel. Its dashboard looks like a modern kitchen slab! Fancy a meal, anyone?

While deliveries for the Tesla Cybertruck will begin on November 30 itself, the truck could also make its way to India, as talks between Tesla and the Indian government seem to be in the final stages. If a deal is closed, it could see Tesla potentially invest billions of dollars for setting up a factory in India, although the first lot will likely be sold via the fully imported route.
