It seems the Renault Kwid-based MPV, codenamed the RBC, is set to enter production soon as a near-production ready test mule was spotted testing on the outskirts of Chennai recently. Thanks to our avid Zigwheels reader Vinothkumar Raghunathan who sent these pictures, we now know a lot more about the upcoming MPV than from previous spy shots.

Like we've said before, the new MPV looks a size smaller than the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. That said, it does look larger than the Datsun Go+, albeit by a slight margin. The test mule was seen wearing a set of blacked out alloy wheels for the first time. Interestingly, unlike the Kwid that features three lug nuts (for saving costs), the RBC gets four. It’s easy to spot the usual Renault elements too, including a large grille that extends outwards towards the headlamps. Also, borrowing inspiration from larger Renault MPVs like the Espace, the tail lamps appear to be connected.

We know that the MPV will sport a dual-tone interior. On the features front, it's expected to pack goodies such as a touchscreen infotainment system, manual air-conditioning, and power windows. While Renault will bill the RBC as a seven-seater, we're placing our bets on it being a slightly spacious 5+2.

As for engine options, we expect Renault to offer the RBC with just a petrol engine. Renault could choose either the Kwid’s 1.0-litre motor or the Nissan Micra’s 1.2-litre engine. There are rumours of a turbocharged version of the Kwid’s 3-cylinder engine being on offer as well and we can’t rule that out completely either. An AMT-equipped version of the MPV has already been spotted on test. So, it’s safe to expect Renault to offer its Easy-R 5-speed AMT alongside the manual.

The Kwid-based MPV is expected to go on sale in the first half of 2019. Prices are expected to start from Rs 5 lakh and go up to Rs 7.5 lakh (ex showroom). At this price point, the RBC will sit between the Datsun GO+ (Rs 3.83 lakh-Rs 5.69 lakh ex showroom) and the Ertiga (Rs 7.44 lakh-Rs 10.90 lakh). Expect more info on the RBC closer to it’s launch.
