The 5.8 magnitude quake that rocked Italy on May 20 this year in Emilia-Romagna has left many dead and injured. Italian supercar maker Ferrari will host an online auction to raise funds for the affected from June 4-10, 2012 that will include rare and important items like the Ferrari 599XX Evo, the extreme, non-homologated sports Berlinetta worth €1.3 million (Rs 8.97 crore) and dedicated to the track-based research and development for the 2012-2013 season.
Incorporating the best of Ferrari’s technology, the 599XX Evo is a non-street legal track car based on the 599 GTB and the 599XX. Powered by the same V12 6.0-litre petrol motor, the 599XX Evo churns out 743PS of power and 700Nm of torque, a significant increase over the series production model. The 599 GTB Fiorano generates 620PS of power and 608Nm of torque touching speeds in excess of 300km/h. One of the key features of the Evo is the active rear wing which can adjust automatically to provide increased cornering performance.
Besides the menacing 599XX Evo on auction, Ferrari will also carry their motorsport theme that will include a V8 engine along with racing suits and helmets donated by Scuderia’s Formula One drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. Numerous items of memorabilia from works racing cars from past seasons and a number of selections from the Ferrari online store including Prancing Horse watches will also be included in the auction.
In 2011, the manufacturer contributed ¥80 million (Rs 5.75 crore) for the earthquake affected in Japan.
