Here’s a closer look at the top-spec models from Polarity’s Sport and Executive range
Homegrown electric two-wheeler manufacturer Polarity has launched not one but six new pedal-assisted e-bicycles in India. They will be offered under the Sport and Executive range with prices ranging from Rs 38,000 to Rs 1.1 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec version. While the basic underlay of both categories is the same, they do differ in terms of aesthetics and power output. To paint a picture, we’ve put together a number of pictures of the S3K and E3K variants, the top-of-the-line e-bicycles from each class.
Dressed in black, the S3K is positioned as the top-spec model in Polarity's lineup. It features sporty decals and an Indian tricolour for a patriotic touch. The electric bicycle also gets a rear tyre hugger which adds to its sporty character.
On the features front, the S3K gets a Bluetooth enabled full-digital instrument console and LED lighting. You can connect your smartphone to the bike and view a bunch of information like vehicle diagnostics, service logs, location tracking and more!
And just in case your phone runs out of juice, you can charge it right up with the help of a USB port which is offered as standard.
The left-hand side switchgear controls the lighting while the right gets a hazard light and regulates the pedal assist function. You also have the option to switch off the motor altogether if you want to conserve your battery. That said, the quality of the switchgear doesn't feel up to the mark, especially when you consider the price tag of Rs 1.1 lakh (ex-showroom).
The entire lineup features a single seat that is height-adjustable.
Interestingly, the upside down fork on the S3K is an adjustable unit which enables the rider to fine-tune the settings as per his/her liking.
The rear employs a gas-charged monoshock with a screw-type preload adjustment. Unfortunately, the unit could be prone to dust and grime thanks to the short tyre hugger.
Both the S3K and the E3K use an 80-volt lithium-ion battery that gets a three-year warranty as standard. As per the brand, it takes four hours to fully charge the bike using the standard charger and 2 hours using the optional fast charger. All six e-bicycles have a claimed range of 80km.
Powering the S3K is a 3kW brushless DC hub motor that’s capable of catapulting the bicycle to a claimed top speed of 100kmph! The E3K, on the other hand, is powered by a slightly less powerful 2.5kW motor. Claimed top speed is 80kmph.
On the other side of the spectrum is the E3K which is designed to be more practical than the S3K. It comes with a full-length rear fender that features a carrier for small luggage.
The entire portfolio features a full-LED lighting system which is more energy-efficient compared to conventional bulbs. However, the design of the headlight differs from model to model, which helps tell them apart.
Just like the S3K, the E3K also features a full-colour TFT screen with Bluetooth connectivity which offers the same functions.
Same goes with the fork which can be adjusted as per the rider’s liking.
Mechanical disc brakes at both ends help anchor the bike.
The rear suspension setup is the same as the one on the S3K, however, thanks to the full-length fender, the shock absorber is protected from dust and debris.
