It seems logical that Mahindra Two Wheeler is looking at venturing into the small capacity scooter market with an all-new 110cc scooter model. India’s biggest segment for scooters in terms of number is the 100-110cc segment, which is currently dominated by the Activa 110. To get a share of the burgeoning scooter sales pie other major players who, like Mahindra, had just 125cc scooter offerings have recently introduced smaller 110cc scooters in the country. Suzuki Motorcycles for instance, introduced the 110cc Suzuki Let’s, despite the popularity of Suzuki Access 125cc scooter. It’s rumoured that Yamaha may also introduce a new 110cc scooter in India soon. (Also read: Suzuki Let's 110cc scooter Review)
The new Mahindra 110cc scooter is said to be more fuel-efficient, lighter, and more affordable than other Mahindra scooter including the Mahindra Duro and Mahindra Rodeo 125cc scooters. The design of the new Mahindra 110cc scooter will be quite different from the existing Mahindra models. There are some inspirations from the now defunct Kinetic Blaze scooter, especially the front design with several slits on the front apron, and has a smart V-shaped headlight.
To keep the cost in check, the new 110cc scooter will not be as feature rich as its elder siblings and will feature a basic analogue instrument cluster, instead of a digital one. The Mahindra will sport telescopic front forks and MRF Nylogrip tyres, broad seats and a flat footboard for convenience. The rear end will have large a tail light, chunk grab rail and a meaty exhaust.
Powering the scooter will be an 110cc single-cylinder engine capable to produce about 8PS and 8.5Nm. Mated to a CVT the smaller motor is expected to claim a fuel-efficiency figure of over 60kmpl.
The new Mahindra 110cc scooter will be officially launched by the second week of August 2014 and will be priced under Rs 50,000.
