Kawasaki has announced that it will discontinue the Ninja ZX-14R post 2020. However, don’t get dejected just yet because, according to our sources, the 2020 ZX-14R is still available in India but on an order basis. So, if we were you and if we had that sort of moolah, we would run to the nearest Kawasaki dealership and book one right now.
The Japanese manufacturer hasn’t revealed any specific reasons for taking the ZX-14R off the shelf. But we suspect that the upcoming emission norms could be one of the reasons for its demise. Moreover, Kawasaki already has the Ninja H2 SX SE in its lineup which is more power powerful, more feature-rich and lighter than the ZX-14R. Over the years, the ZX-14R received some updates in the form of a slight cosmetic makeover and the addition of some extra rider aids, but apart from those, it never received any substantial update.
The Ninja ZX-14R has been on sale for more than a decade and a half, and it was Kawasaki’s answer to the fan-favourite Suzuki Hayabusa when it came to outright speed. In fact, the Ninja even went on and became the fastest accelerating motorcycle, overthrowing the ‘Busa. But now that Suzuki is planning to give the Hayabusa a proper generation update, we think we might have a new king in this segment.
