Thailand’s K-Speed Customs has fashioned Honda’s monkey bike on the popular robot from Mobile Suit Gundam

The Honda MX125, popularly known as the Grom, has had a cult following since its launch. It has been subjected to insane custom jobs, including being armed with the Ducati 1199 Panigale R’s engine! Last year, Honda heard out the monkey bike’s fans and introduced the 2021 Grom that can ‘transform’ into a motard, a scrambler, or even an ADV! Each panel is held on by six bolts only, so swapping panels shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.

Thailand-based K-Speed Customs took this idea to another level, modelling this pint-sized bike along the lines of the giant robot from the popular anime, Gundam, a series spanning over 40 years (and counting). K-Speed’s inspiration was the Gundam RX-78-2, the original manned robot from the 1979 series Mobile Suit Gundam.

K-Speed is known for its bolt-on kits for a bunch of motorcycles, including the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. With these kits, one can customise a bike at home. That said, the brand has not yet clarified whether the Gundam Edition Grom kit will be available for purchase (or if it is a one-off build).

The Honda Grom Gundam Edition kit comes with a butch-looking fuel tank cover, a headlight beak, a belly pan, a sleek tail section, and a new seat. Replacing the stock exhaust is a stubby unit from K-Speed. Of course, every bit is painted to match the parts of the mechabot.

Though the Gundam Edition kit is not on sale yet, K-Speed sells the ‘Super Grom’ kit, which has the same components as the Gundam kit. It is available in different colours, priced at THB 27,900 (translates to a little over Rs 66,000).

The popularity of the Gundam series led to Honda releasing Honda Monkey Gundam Limited Edition in December last year. Much like the Grom, the Monkey too is an excellent machine for some drool-worthy custom jobs, like this badass pint-sized cruiser.
