  • Mystery Ford GT to be unveiled on July 4 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
  • Teaser image shows a roof-scoop and a large rear-wing, suggesting that it could be a hardcore, track-specific version of the GT.
  • Could be a part of the FIA World Endurance Championship’s hypercar line-up.
  • It is expected to get a beefier V6 engine along with track-specific aerodynamics.

Ford is set to arrive at this year’s Goodwood Festival Of Speed in style. Apart from the new Focus ST and the Mustang Shelby GT500, Ford will also showcase some of its most iconic classic cars. It doesn’t just stop there as Ford has dropped another bombshell in the form of a teaser image of what looks like a hardcore version of the GT that will be unveiled at Goodwood on July 4.

The teaser image indicates that it will be a hardcore version of the Ford GT or at least something based off it. However, some interesting bits like a big racing spoiler as well as a roof scoop suggest that the car may be a race car derived from the Ford GT supercar.

The theory for the race-spec Ford GT supercar might have some weightage since this coincides with the FIA World Endurance Championship introducing a hypercar class to succeed the LMP1 category. With Aston Martin set to run the Valkyrie and Toyota announcing the rollout of its GR Super Sport, this could be Ford’s answer to compete with the automobile juggernauts. These assumptions also get strength from the fact that Ford took part in the discussions regarding the new rules along with ToyotaAston Martin, McLaren, and Ferrari .

None of these possible theories are official. The hardcore version of the Ford GT is expected to get a beefier version of the V6 Ecoboost engine that delivers 656PS of power and 746 Nm of torque. Aside from that, we can expect the new Ford GT to get aerodynamic revisions as well as bespoke parts for hardcore performance. Thankfully, the wait isn’t long.

Other than that, Ford will also be showcasing classics like the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing #66 Ford GT that took part in the 2019 Le Mans endurance race, a WRC-spec Fiesta, a NASCAR-spec Fusion, and a 1980 Zakspeed Turbo Capri.
