2026 Mahindra Thar OG Launched At Rs 10.32 Lakh: Here's What's New

Mahindra has launched the Thar OG at Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. This is essentially a facelifted Thar, which now also gets the OG suffix in its nameplate. The popular off-roader now gets more modern touches and chassis upgrades, boosting its capabilities and lifestyle appeal. The modern Thar was launched back in 2020 and got a decent amount of upgrades last year.

2026 Mahindra Thar OG: What's New?

The Thar OG is more than just a facelift to the Thar. The Thar OG is based on the shorter version of the Thar Roxx's platform, which is called the M-Glyde. While this is stuffer and more capable than the outgoing Thar, it also helps introduce other hardware upgrades. They include the Pentalink rear suspension with DaVinci dampers, which was introduced in the XUV 7XO. This will help boost the driving dynamics of the Thar OG. It also gets styling, feature and safety upgrades discussed below:

2026 Mahindra Thar OG: Price

The Thar facelift starts at Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. Full pricing details are as follows:

The Thar OG is priced at Rs 10.32 lakh more than the outgoing model, considering the base variant. And notice a new third variant called the ZXT, which is now the top variant of the Thar OG.

2026 Mahindra Thar OG: Exterior

The Thar facelift gets a few much-needed modern touches, which now make it look up to date. Elements like new LED headlamps, DRLs and LED indicators give the Thar a fresh look. Though the overall front end has a similar shape to the outgoing Thar, it gets a new five-slotted grille and a bumper with simpler styling. However, do note that the LED fog lamps are now housed on the front fenders.

Though the Thar facelift is now based on the Roxx’s platform, the side profile of the Thar remains almost identical to the outgoing model. The quintessential 3-door SUV design is immediately recognisable thanks to the single doors and large rear quarter design with the upright stance. However, a notable update here includes the larger 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

Over to the rear, the new Thar’s boxy proportions are also carried over but get new LED tail lamps and bumper designs. The side-hinged split-tail gate is also carried over.

The Thar OG comes in eight colour options. They include the Artemis Silver, Battleship Grey, Deepforest, Everest White, Galaxy Grey, Jeans Blue, Stealth Black and Tango Red.

The Thar facelift also gets a significant update in the interior. The layout stays more or less similar to the pre-facelift; however, it gets a new brown and black colour scheme.

Interior layout and space remians identical to the prevois Thar but now feels fresher thanks to the new colour scheme. 

2026 Mahindra Thar OG: Features And Safety

The Thar facelift gets new features such as a new engine push-button start and a wireless charger. 

While the feature list is not generous, it does get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 6-speaker sound system, cruise control, a height-adjustable driver's seat, and steering-mounted controls. 

Safety also gets a major upgrade thanks to 6 airbags, front and rear parking sensors, electronic power steering, disc brakes on all four wheels, roll-over mitigation (ROM), hill-hold control (HHC), rear camera and vehicle dynamics control (VDC).

2026 Mahindra Thar OG: Powertrain Options

The Thar facelift gets the same 3 engine options. A 1.5-litre diesel engine, a 2-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Detailed powertrain options are as follows:

MT - Manual Transmission, AT - Torque Converter (automatic) / 2WD - 2 Wheel Drive (rear), 4WD - 4 Wheel Drive

The Thar OG, being an off-roader cum lifestyle vehicle, has generous amounts of power regardless of the engine you choose. 

This now gets three drive modes, including Sand, Snow and Mud. It also gets updated off-road hardware, including an electronic differential lock and brake-lock differential. 

2026 Mahindra Thar OG: Rivals

The Thar OG sits in a class of its own. However, the closest alternatives include the Maruti Jimny and the Force Gurkha 3-door. It also goes against its larger cousin, the Thar Roxx.

The new Thar OG replaces the old Thar with tangible changes, which crucially include the new platform borrowed from the larger Thar Roxx. This will most likely make the 3-door more stable and comfortable than before.

The incremental update in features may not be the class best. However, this does not matter to the typical Thar buyer. The looks, off-road appeal and now the improved chassis will make it a much stronger proposition.
