Ferrari's magic graces Delhi

11,000 km, 72 Days and two Ferrari 612 Scagliettis is possibly the best definition of 'dream road trip' that anybody in India can phantom. The journey that began on the 25th of February, 2008 has seen the Ferraris make their way around the country, visiting hill stations, beaches, old ruins and now the capital city of Delhi.

The almost summer Sunday morning in Delhi was witness to a rare setting of bright red Ferrari flags fluttering in the wind around India Gate, a sight that had many a motoring enthusiast smiling, yet emoting a rather bewildered look. It's quintessential Ferrari fever, and the thought of seeing two cars making a commotion at India Gate is hardly what Delhi-ites expected!

The flag off in Delhi was staged at India Gate and none other than honorable Chief Minister Sheila Dixit graced the event. No doubt this is a proud moment for India and Ferrari alike. Apart from the symbolism of discovering India, this tour also stands as testimony to the fact that Ferrari is considering the Indian market rather seriously. The fact that these cars are able to traverse our land goes to show that these rare breed of prancing horses are suitable for Indian conditions, albeit for a slight increase in ride height, but that does not seem to hamper with the elegance and outright power of these 540 bhp V 12 engined machines.

The sound of the deep rumble emitting from the exhausts marked the beginning of this leg.  There was no need to tell the crowd to quiet down; the magic of Ferrari had them spellbound anyways.  As the flag swung, the machines made their way onto Delhi streets to proceed towards Agra.  From there the cars will make their way through Rajasthan and finally culminate their epic journey in Mumbai.
