Porsche is likely to showcase its current range of cars at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. Porsche’s current line-up of supercars and sports cars includes the extensive range of 911s, the Boxster, the Cayman, the Panamera and the Cayenne.
The Porsche 911 has used the same layout over its 48 year old lifespan. Since the first 911 the engine has been put at the back of the car, over the rear wheels. But everything else has changed. Clever mechanical upgrades and electronic devices have pushed this unique supercar to a whole new level. The 911 takes part in a long list of race series across the world and that pedigree shows in their road cars as well. The basic 911 is a rear wheel drive naturally aspirated sports car while the top end 911 turbo with all-wheel drive is an outright supercar slayer. But, what makes the 911 different from every other supercar is that it is a very practical car which dare we say can be used everyday.
The Porsche Boxster is a convertible sports car designed to be more of a lifestyle statement more than a performance car but Porsche’s racing pedigree makes this every bit a driver’s car. The Porsche Cayman is essentially a Boxster with a fixed metal roof.
The Porsche Panamera is a four-seater supercar that takes the concept of a four-door sedan and incorporates it into a supercar. This concept of a four seater supercar has really caught on in the western world and there are a surprising number of competitors for the Panamera. Such is demand for the car that now there is even a diesel version.
The Cayenne is Porsche’s take on an SUV. Even here the performance car maker’s sporting pedigree comes into play as the Cayenne is one of the best performance SUVs on the planet. Do not think for one second though that this is a one of those soft-roaders in tiger overalls. This thing is a serious off-roader and is one of the very best amongst its competitors.
