At this year’s Annual General Meeting of Audi AG, Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of management of Audi announced the car maker’s plans of introducing two new SUVs – an entry-level Q1 and the sporty Q8.
In his speech, Stadler mentioned that the Q1 is to be launched in 2016. Going by its line-up of cars, the Q1 will be the cheapest of their SUV models and will be priced less than the Q3. A new sporty Q8 is on the cards as well. The Q8 will be an electric with a range of over 500 kilometres.
In 2015, Audi has already launched quite a few cars, including the 2015 TT, the facelifted RS7 and more recently the RS6 Avant. The German car maker is all set to bring in the 2015 Q3 in India next week. Stadler also mentioned that the Audi sold more than 5,40,000 units of the first generation Q7 globally and they expect a similar response from the upcoming 2016 Q7. In the Indian market, the Q7 is expected to be launched around the festive season.
Aside from the Q7 the four-ringed brand has a lot riding on the upcoming A4 and the R8. To counter Mercedes-Benz’s 15 in ’15 strategy Audi has plans of bringing in 5 models in the next few months but internationally they plan to add 12 new models in its line-up.
With Mercedes-Benz as well as Audi going all out with respect to new car launches, it seems like the battle for the top-spot in the luxury car market is going to get intense.
