The tenth-gen Civic was launched in India after a six-year-long hiatus, but was discontinued recently

  • The 2022 Civic will debut on April 28.

  • It sits lower than before with its muscular shoulder lines adding to the aggressive stance.

  • There is no official word on if the new-gen sedan will make it to India.

Ahead of the latest Honda Civic’s global unveiling on April 28, the sedan has been spied undisguised, divulging crucial design-related details.

Up front, Honda has done away with the chrome on the grille. The sedan, reminiscent of the tenth-gen Accord, sits low and has an aggressive stance, which lends it a sporty appeal. Compared to leaked images of the China-spec model, this one has differently designed alloy wheels. Select variants also get sporty dual-tone ORVMs.

We haven’t seen the interior, but the prototype version does tell us what to expect. The dashboard is positioned low and looks cleaner than before, and the climate control knobs resemble those in the City. The prototype also featured a digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, which we expect will be carried over to the production-spec model as well.

We don’t know the exact powertrains yet. That said, the Chinese-spec model hinted at a turbo-petrol motor, but the sedan might be powered by a 1.5-litre or a 2.0-litre petrol engine. It could also get Honda’s e:HV hybrid powertrain. Transmission options will likely include both manual and automatic gearboxes.

Like its predecessors, the 2022 Civic will also get the performance-oriented Si and Type-R.

In India, the tenth-gen Civic was launched after a six-year hiatus but was recently discontinued. So we cannot say for sure whether the sedan will make its way to the country this time. But if it does, the new-gen Civic will have to compete with the Hyundai Elantra and the upcoming fourth-gen Skoda Octavia, the launch of which has again been delayed due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
