There’s A New Star In Town

TVS had launched the BS6-compliant Star City Plus a little over a year ago, with a couple of extra features, including a segment-first LED headlight. The Hosur-based manufacturer has now teased the 2021 model, which could be a special edition featuring new colours and a front disc brake option. Expect the official launch in the upcoming weeks.

The previous iteration of the BS6 Star City Plus featured a segment-first full-LED headlight with a redesigned front fascia. Other changes included a USB mobile-charging port (next to the semi-digital instrument console) and a dual-tone seat. The same features are expected to be carried over to the special-edition variant.

Don’t expect any change with respect to performance. The 2021 TVS Star City Plus may continue to use the 109.7cc air-cooled, fuel-injected engine that makes 8.19PS at 7,350rpm and 8.7Nm at 4,500rpm. That’s 0.21PS less at 350 revs higher than the previous BS4 model. The 4-speed transmission will be retained, and so will be its hardware, which include a telescopic fork and a rear twin-shock setup. However, the anchor could be dropped sooner if TVS decides to add a front disc brake (borrowed from the Radeon Commuter Bike of the Year).
The TVS Star City Plus currently retails at Rs 65,865, and we believe the new special edition may come at a premium of around Rs 3,000 over the standard model. It’ll compete against the Bajaj Platina 110 H-Gear, Honda Livo, and the Hero Passion Pro.
In related news, the Star City’s premium sibling, the RTR 200, also received a massive update this year. We spent some time with the bike, and here’s what we thought of it.
