Audi India has revealed the launch date of its next model, the S5 Sportback. Set to debut on March 22, the updated S5 Sportback is essentially a more glorious A4 with a sloping roofline and a beastlier heart. It will rival the newly launched BMW M340i and the Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe.

Under the hood lies a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that thumps out a respectable 349PS of power and 500 Nm of torque. The power is directed to all four corners via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Thanks to Audi's quattro all-wheel drive, the S5 is quick, doing 0-100 kph in 4.5 seconds with the top speed capped at 250kph. It also boasts a myriad of updates under the skin including stiffer springs, larger brakes and alloy wheels.

Complementing the performance are the sharper looks. The large single-frame Audi grille now sits lower and wider and is flanked by a funkier set of LED headlights. Even the bumpers have been restyled and look meaner than before. The larger alloy wheels gives it sportier poise while the rear sports new LED taillamps.

Stepping inside, the first thing you’ll notice is the lack of a swivel wheel. This is because the S5 has been upgraded to Audi's latest 10.1” infotainment system. The virtual cockpit has also been updated with a sharper layout. The rest of the cabin remains more or less the same.

The S5 will likely be brought in as a full import and will be priced at around Rs 75 lakh (ex-showroom). It might not be as affordable as its rival, the BMW M340i, but that price tag puts it in the ballpark of the Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe.
