Aprilia took the wraps off the RS250 SP racer at EICMA last year, teasing and tempting us at the prospect of another manufacturer joining the Moto3 grid. While the company might be mulling over the opportunity, it certainly has opened the doors for young Italian riders to get into the sport as the bike will be part of the upcoming Aprilia Sport Production Championship. And the price of the bike: an eye-watering €9,700 (roughly Rs 8 lakh).

Considering the bike is built comparable to the spec of a Moto3 machine and is not actually the finished Grand Prix prototype racer, the asking price is actually not that high. The Honda NSF250R that is raced in Moto3 (and in India in the Honda India Talent Cup) retails for around $35,000 (approx Rs 26.50 lakh).

The RS250 SP is the spiritual successor to the hallowed RS250 two-stroker that Valentino Rossi raced on and won in his Aprilia days. This racer is built in collaboration with Italian race bike specialist, Ohvale. Packing in a 250cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor, the RS250 SP in its stock tune produces 28PS. The NSF250R, in comparison, pumps out a whopping 48PS.
Paired with top-spec Ohlins suspension units, Brembo braking hardware, and lightweight Marchesini rims that come shod with grippy Pirelli slicks, the RS250 SP is quite a worthy tool, especially for young riders making their way through the ranks.
