MG Motor India has launched the Astor, essentially the facelifted ZS, at Rs 9.78 lakh. Bookings are underway and can be done online (via MG’s website) or offline (through MG’s dealerships). The petrol-only compact SUV gets two engine options and four trims: Style, Super, Smart, and Sharp.

As mentioned before, the Astor is essentially a facelifted ZS, and gets a host of distinguishing touches over the ZS EV. These include a restyled grille, LED headlights, tail lamps, and bumpers. It also sits on a different set of 17-inch alloy wheels that help distinguish it from the all-electric ZS EV.

Inside, the Astor gets a new 10.1-inch infotainment system, eliminating the need for physical air-conditioning knobs. MG has also given the SUV new digital dials and a small robot (on top of the dash) for its AI-based features. It’s a gimmicky feature, but reacts to voice commands and even emotes expressions as well.

Now to the features. On offer is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (as standard), connected car tech, climate control, keyless entry with push-button start, panoramic sunroof, and a six-way power adjustable driver’s seat. The compact SUV also boasts autonomous driver aid features like lane-keep/departure assist, automatic emergency braking, collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot detection.

The Astor gets two petrol engines: one is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated unit, while the other is a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol option. Both get an automatic transmission, though only the NA unit is offered with a manual.
