Eagle-eyed viewers will spot a bit of Glanza inspiration in the design

  • Glanza-inspired bit includes a chrome strip connected to the split-LED DRLs.

  • Design highlights include a muscular front fascia, split-LED headlights and a red-black dual-tone paint job.

  • Cabin expected to get a large floating touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, a head-up display and wireless charging.

  • Will be powered by 1.5-litre mild-hybrid and segment-first strong hybrid petrol engines.

  • To rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor and its Maruti counterpart.

We know that the covers will come off Toyota’s upcoming new SUV, the Hyryder, on July 01; but related news continues to flow in quite quickly. After we exclusively got details on its powertrain and drivetrain options surfaced last week, we’ve now finally got a glimpse of how our Hyundai Creta rival will look without a disguise, thanks to leaked TVC shoot stills.

The leaked image matches what we’ve seen in earlier spy shots with quite a muscular face onboard the Hyryder. You’ll also notice some Glanza-inspired bits such as a chrome strip that blends with the split-LED DRLs. A massive air dam below is flanked by split-headlamps. There’s also a bit of silver accents on the front bumper lip adding a bit of contrast.

The Hyryder in this image gets a red shade with a black roof, hinting at dual-tone paint options. Its Maruti counterpart will get its own styling but the differences won’t likely be as significant as the likes of the Skoda Kushaq and the VW Taigun. We also noticed the nameplate had the ‘Urban Cruiser’ prefix suggesting that the ’Hyryder’ nameplate is to identify a step above the Urban Cruiser sub-4 metre SUV.

Earlier peaks into the Hyryder’s cabin gives glimpses of a large touchscreen infotainment system with slim AC vents similar to the Glanza. Other expected bits should include a head-up display, connected car tech, a 360-degree camera, wireless phone charger, and a sunroof.

Under the hood, Toyota will be offering 1.5-litre petrol engines in two hybrid guises. First up is a 103PS mild-hybrid motor, while the other is a segment-first 116PS strong hybrid motor. Transmission options will be 6-speed manual and automatic for the mild-hybrid engine, with an e-CVT setup for the strong hybrid motor. We’ll be getting an all-wheel drivetrain for the mild-hybrid option while the strong hybrid option will send power to the front wheels only.
