Ready for another Volkswagen launch? The enthusiasts say YES!! If you have been a fan of the Polo, a fan of hatchbacks or just a fan of exciting German cars, then the Golf GTI will definitely catch your interest. All set to hit our shores on May 26, the Golf caters to the inner child inside you. While our opinion about the hatchback is still under embargo, here are all its details for you to create your opinion about the most-awaited hatchback.
The Golf GTI’s fascia sports a honeycomb grille, some red accents, and GTI badges to remind you of what you are getting into. The bumper gets the iconic five-piece LED light units, and the logo in the centre gets the illumination function.
At almost 4.3 metres, the Golf is about the length of the Taigun SUV. It gets 18-inch alloy wheels and a sleek side profile. The rear also gets LED tail lights and sporty elements such as a roof-mounted spoiler, a shark fin antenna and a dual exhaust system.
The interior of the Golf features a large 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which runs on Volkswagen’s latest OS, featuring ChatGPT-enabled voice assistance. It sports tartan-patterned sport seats that are meant to provide support during corners and aggressive driving. Similar to the exterior, the interior also gets GTI badges and red inserts, and you get GTI-specific graphics as well.
The Golf GTI, being a CBU, is loaded with features, such as a 10.25-inch driver’s display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a heads-up display, powered and ventilated front seats, multi-zone climate control, and multi-colour ambient lighting.
Safety is taken care of by a suite of ADAS features, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a 360-degree camera and an electronic parking brake.
The Golf GTI is powered by a 2-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol unit that churns out up to 265 PS and 370 Nm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed DSG, which delivers power to the front wheels. The Golf sprints from 0-100 kmph in 5.9 seconds. For sharp cornering and enhanced grip, it features progressive steering and an electronically controlled front-axle differential lock.
Stay tuned as we will be covering more about the performance of the hatchback once the embargo lifts.
The Golf GTI is expected to be priced at over Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom), and will be an alternative to the Mini Cooper S and the upcoming Skoda Octavia RS. The first slot of the Golf has also already been sold out, and we will have to wait for confirmation from the brand about the bookings of the second batch.
