Quick News Highlights:
- Upcoming Bajaj Chetak models to get new battery cells with more range output
- The new batteries seem to be more energy dense and efficient
- The nomenclature of upcoming Chetak models will possibly be revised as well
Bajaj Auto expanded the Bajaj Chetak lineup this year and made the entry point for owning a Chetak more affordable in the process. And now according to a report published online, the upcoming Chetak models will get new battery cells that provide more range than the current ones.
According to the said report, the new cells will be sourced from a new supplier and will allow the Bajaj Chetak range to have a better range output. A few weeks ago, the Chetak 3201 Special Edition was launched and is available only till the end of August 2024. Despite costing less than the top-end Premium variant and having the same 3.2kWh capacity battery pack, it has a claimed range output of 136km compared to the Premium’s 126km claimed range. The report says that it seems the battery in the 3201 Special Edition is more efficient and more energy dense, which is why that model has a greater range output despite having the same capacity battery pack as the Premium variant.
The other detail we got to know from the report is that the Pune-based manufacturer will be altering the Chetak lineup’s nomenclature with the upcoming models. The 2901 variant, launched this year, gets a 2.9kWh capacity battery pack and is the first variant in the Chetak lineup to be named in this manner. Hence, the Chetak 2901 name of that variant. Similarly, there is a possibility that the Premium and the Urbane variants will be named 3201 and 3202 respectively when those models are launched with the new battery packs.
The Bajaj Chetak is one of the best-selling electric scooters in the Indian two-wheeler market. And with the lineup becoming more affordable this year, new battery cells with a higher range output will surely help Bajaj Auto sell even more units of the Chetak in the future.
