From long-travel suspension to dual-purpose tyres and an upswept exhaust, the BSA Scrambler has it all

BSA Scrambler

BSA pulled the wraps off the Scrambler 650 at the ongoing Motorcycle Live in the UK. Yes, just as spy shots of the Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 started surfacing on the internet, the Classic Legends-owned company publicly showcased its version of the do-it-all bike genre. Unfortunately, this is just a prototype…for now.

The BSA Scrambler builds on the same platform as that of the BSA Gold Star, but has all the goodies to make it the trail-happy bike that you’d expect it to be. So, this prototype flaunts a braced handlebar, long-travel suspension, raised fender, headlight grill, serrated footpegs and what looks like a 19/17-inch wire-spoke rim setup shod with dual-purpose Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres.

And adding to the authenticity is the side plate with a racing number on it, the upswept double-barrel exhaust and the offset monopod instrument console.  Come to think of it, this seems to be a perfect elder sibling to the Yezdi Scrambler.

This BSA Scrambler prototype uses the same 652cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine from the Gold Star. While the performance figures have not been revealed yet, it will likely produce the same 45.6PS and 55Nm.

With BSA extensively testing the Gold Star in India, will the Scrambler too make it to our shores? Well, while the company’s roadster is likely to launch here early next year, the Scrambler is expected to be introduced in production guise by mid-2023. And with Enfield’s Scrambler making it to India, we don’t see a reason why BSA won’t follow suit.
