Take A Look At The Second Base MX3 Variant Variant Of The Mahindra Thar Roxx 5 Door In 8 Images

The Mahindra Thar Roxx, a 5-door version of the Thar, was recently launched starting from Rs 12.99 lakh (introductory ex-showroom). Mahindra offers the bigger Thar in a total of six variants: MX1, MX3, MX5, AX3L, AX5L, and AX7L. Here’s what you get with the one-above-base MX3 variant of the SUV which is priced from Rs 14.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Front

Despite being one of the lower-spec variants, the Thar Roxx MX3 comes with LED projector headlights and LED turn indicators up front. The rest of the details are the same as those found on the higher-spec variants of the SUV, including the contrasting silver finish on the bumper. The only missing features here are C-shaped LED DRLs and fog lights.

Side

Along the side, the first thing you notice are the 18-inch wheels, but these are steel wheels painted in black and not alloys (reserved in higher variants. The antenna has been provided on the fender itself. Unlike the Thar 3-door, the Thar Roxx can only be had in a metal hardtop version. A side step has been provided for ingress and egress.

Being a lower-spec variant, the MX3 Thar Roxx doesn’t feature a sunroof. However you get black roof, which is standard across all variants of the SUV, giving it a two tone look.

Rear

What you’ll appreciate about this particular variant of the Thar Roxx is that it comes with the same C-shaped LED tail lights and LED high-mounted brake lights as seen on the top-spec version. In typical Thar fashion, the spare wheel is mounted on the tailgate, and you also get a spare wheel cover. A rear wiper with washer and defogger has also been provided with this variant.

Interior

Inside, you get the same black and white dashboard, however you don’t get soft touch materials, and even the steering wheel is not upholstered in leatherette. 

Unlike in the higher variants, the one-above-base variant of the Thar Roxx here gets black fabric seat upholstery, which is definitely easier to maintain than the white leatherette upholstery higher-end models come with. 

In terms of equipment, you get a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and wired Apple CarPlay, a 4-speaker sound system, wireless phone charger, auto-dimming IRVM (inside rear view mirror) steering mounted audio controls, and a manual AC.  The cluster here however is an analogue unit which comes from the Thar 3-door.

In this variant, the rear AC vents have also been provided for rear passengers. You also get a 15W Type-C charging port at the rear.

Its safety kit includes 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), all-wheel disc brakes (petrol-only), hill hold and hill descent control, rear parking camera and rear parking sensors.

Features like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats 360-degree camera, and ADAS are reserved for higher variants.

Powertrain Options

The MX3 variant of the Thar Roxx gets both turbo-petrol and diesel engine options. The detailed specifications are given below:

In petrol, the MX3 variant of the Thar Roxx can only be had in automatic, whereas in diesel it is available with both manual and automatic transmission options. However, you don’t get the option of a 4-wheel-drive (4WD) drivetrain with this variant of the Thar Roxx, for which you’d have to buy a higher variant.

Price Range & Rivals

The prices for the MX3 variant of the Thar Roxx ranges between Rs 14.99 lakh and Rs 17.49 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). This 5-door version of the Thar takes on the Force Gurkha 5-door and Maruti Jimny.
