Planning To Buy The 2025 Tata Sierra? Check Out Its Pros And Cons

The Tata Sierra as a nameplate ignites nostalgia like no other car can. It is widely remembered as the car that started the SUV culture in India, and when Tata decided to revive the name in a modern and tech-loaded avatar, even people with the faintest memory of the OG Sierra got excited.

Now, at prices starting from Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the 2025 Tata Sierra has started to turn heads already, and we recently got to experience it in detail. So if you want to know the good and the bad of the new Sierra, you can find the answers to all your questions in these pros and cons.

Exterior

Pro: If you’ve ever seen the OG Sierra in person, then you know it is one of the most unique looking cars that have ever been made thanks to its glass roof. Tata has tried to replicate that design for the modern era, and it's fair to say that they succeeded.

While Tata has kept the C-pillar intact, which removed the possibility of a curved glass panel, they have painted it back along with the roof to mimic the design of the original. Furthermore, they have also kept it boxy and muscular like the OG, while adding modern elements like connected LED DRLs and tail lamps, and stylish 19-inch alloy wheels

Interior

Pro: The one thing that surprised us all when we sat inside the Sierra is the sheer amount of space in the rear. It’s not just good in terms of space, it is the segment best when it comes to legroom and shoulder room.

You can recline the rear seats to get a more comfortable seating position, there is a boss mode function to move the front passenger seat, there are sunblinds for your privacy, and three people in the back can sit comfortably for long journeys.

Pro: Another thing we liked was the boot space. Sierra comes with a MASSIVE boot, which can easily store your entire family’s vacation luggage. The boot is wide, deep, and tall. You can easily stack one suitcase over another, and for more space you get a 60:40 split in the rear seats. To make things even more convenient, the Sierra offers a powered tailgate which can be operated via gestures.

Con: However, two things did stick out to us as a con, one of which is the inconsistent cabin quality. On the surface, every touchpoint is covered in soft touch materials, and Tata has used a generous amount of gloss black elements to make the cabin look and feel premium.

But, some plastics feel scratchy, not all buttons have the same solid feel, some design bits have improper fitment, and these things needed better execution to maintain the premium quotient of this cabin.

Con: The other con inside the cabin is the limited front seat space. We have experienced this in the Nexon and Currv, where the front seats feel small and not enough for tall passengers. 

During our experience, the front seats were occupied by two people who are over 6 feet tall, and both experienced limited side support, limited knee room, and sub par support to the shoulders and upper back.

Features & Safety

Pro: When it comes to features, Tata never fails to disappoint, and that’s true with the Sierra. It surpasses even its elder siblings in features as it gets a triple screen setup with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch front passenger screen, and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. 

Moreover, it gets a panoramic sunroof, front ventilated seats, a wireless phone charger, a 12-speaker JBL black sound system, and powered tailgate. In our experience, all these features worked properly, and we did not experience any lag in the screens.

Pro: Tata and safety go hand-in-hand, which has been the case for a long time, and even with the Sierra, Tata has left no safety stone unturned. You get 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, electronic stability program (ESP), and an electronic parking brake with auto hold as standard.

Higher variants get a 360-degree camera with a blind view monitor and Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, high beam assist, rear cross traffic alert, and autonomous emergency braking. We also expect the Sierra to get a 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP.

Performance & Ride Comfort

Pro: The Sierra not only offers you loads of features, it also gives you multiple choices when it comes to powertrains. If you want a relaxed city drive experience, you can go for the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. If you drive a lot and need good fuel efficiency, Tata has offered a 1.5-litre diesel engine. And lastly, for those who want quick performance, there is also an option of a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine.

With both manual and automatic transmissions on offer, and an all-wheel-drive setup on its way, the Tata Sierra has something for everyone.

Pro: In the Tata SUVs that we’ve driven before, we’ve experienced a cushy and planted ride quality, and that is what the Sierra also offers. There is limited side to side movement inside the cabin, potholes and speedbreakers are absorbed smoothly, you don’t feel any sudden jerk that’ll take you by surprise, and even with a full load, the ride quality remains comfortable.

Con: The last con that we felt in the Sierra came with the diesel engine. During our drive, we felt a lot of noise and vibration due to its lack of refinement, which is more than what we’ve experienced in the 1.5-litre diesel engines of Hyundai and Kia SUVs.
