Mahindra Thar 5-door India Debut Timeline Confirmed, This is When It Will Break Cover

Mahindra is all set to take covers off the highly anticipated Thar 5-door model on August 15 on the occasion of the 78th Independence day. It is expected that the prices will be revealed shortly after the unveiling event. The Mahindra Thar 5-door will get an overhauled look along with plenty of feature additions over the current three-door version. Let's delve down and know more about everything that is expected from the Thar 5-door model.

Mahindra Thar 5 Door: Exterior Design

The recently leaked images of the upcoming Thar 5-door gave a plethora of cues regarding its design details. The Thar 5-door will get a completely revised front fascia with redesigned body coloured grille along with an all LED headlight setup. Further down, the bumpers have been sculpted differently, featuring a contrasting silver finish and housing the fog lamps.

The side profile of the Thar 5-door gets an elongated wheelbase accommodating an extra set of doors with handles situated on the door pillar. It will also get a side-step for improved ingress and egress and will sport large dual tone alloy wheels (limited to top-spec trims). 

The rear is also expected to get minor tweaks in the form of updated LED tail lights and a new spare wheel cover as seen in the previously spied images.

Mahindra Thar 5 Door: Expected Features On Board

The Mahindra Thar 5-door will be a well equipped lifestyle SUV with all the feature niceties included to appeal to the highly aspirational Indian audience. It was earlier spied with a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with connected car tech, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, keyless entry with push button start/stop functionality, and most importantly, a panoramic sunroof. 

We also expect it to come with wireless phone charging and a dual-zone automatic climate control unit. Notably, the Thar 5-door models will get a light themed interior (as found in the XUV700), as opposed to the dark interiors of the 3-door model. 

Safety features should encompass 6 airbags (as standard), ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, all-four wheel disc brakes, a 360 degree camera setup with front and rear parking sensors and even partial ADAS equipment like adaptive cruise control and emergency braking. 

Mahindra Thar 5 Door: Powertrain

The Mahindra Thar 5-door is expected to borrow the engines from its siblings and 3 door counterpart. It is expected to get the 150 PS 2-litre turbo petrol engine and the 132 PS 2.2-litre diesel engine, but with a different state of tuning. We expect the Thar 5-door models to be offered in both 6-speed manual transmission and a torque converter automatic transmission.

 Further, the Thar 5-door will retain the moniker’s off-road prowess with the option of four wheel drive models with differential locking and possibly with various driving modes. But for those aiming to use it on well paved roads, a two-wheel drive option should also be available. 

Mahindra Thar 5 Door: Expected Price And Rivals

The Thar 5-door model will debut on August 15, post which prices are expected to be announced later. Its  introductory price is expected to start around the Rs 15 lakh mark. It will go up against the Force Gurkha 5-door and will be a larger alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
