Until now, Tata Motors has been enjoying the third spot in terms of overall sales numbers in the Indian market while slowly catching up to second-spot resident Hyundai. In fact, at certain occasions, the Indian marque even overtook the Korean brand. But looking at the October 2023 sales numbers, it looks like Tata has a new threat to its market share, as Mahindra has been catching up really fast.
Here’s a quick look at the October sales figures of both Indian carmakers:
|
Brand |
October 2023 Sales Numbers |
|
Tata Motors |
48,637 units |
|
Mahindra |
43,708 units |
Earlier, Mahindra announced plans to ramp up production and that could be a contributing factor for an uptick in sales numbers, considering its healthy tally of pending orders.
Festive season sales have also helped Mahindra improve its sales numbers.
Tata’s new launches – Nexon, Nexon EV, Safari and Harrier – are expected to boost the carmaker’s sales in the following months.
Mahindra didn’t have any major new launches this year.

October 2023 has generally been a strong month for the Indian automotive industry, all thanks to the festive season sales. In fact, if you’re considering bringing home a new car this year, then you should consider these 10 new launches that made plenty of noise.

Meanwhile, both Mahindra and Tata have some highly anticipated launches lined up next year. From the SUV marque, you can expect to see the Thar 5-door, XUV.e8 (electric XUV700) and XUV300 facelift. And from the house of Tata Motors, you can expect to see the Curvv EV, Harrier EV, Safari EV and Punch EV.
