The Mahindra XUV700 and the Tata Safari facelift are direct rivals to each other. If you want a sub-Rs 30 lakh 6-/7-seater family SUV, it is likely that your choices will come down to these two. While both the SUVs get a diesel engine, the XUV700’s engine capacity is greater than the 2-litre capacity of the Safari. As a result, the XUV700 does get a superior output of 185PS and 450Nm, compared to the Safari’s 170PS and 350Nm.

The Mahindra also gets the option of all-wheel drive, but we are going to use the numbers of the front-wheel drive powertrain to keep the comparison fair and square.

The difference in power outputs has a clear advantage for the Mahindra XUV700. It is nearly 4 seconds quicker than the Safari in the 0-100kmph test, while being approximately 2 seconds ahead in the quarter mile time as well.

Even in the braking test, the XUV700 outperforms the Safari by stopping in 37.65 meters, as opposed to the Safari’s 40.26 meter braking distance. So the XUV700 clearly packs more real-world performance and even braking prowess, compared to the Tata Safari facelift.

Prices for the Mahindra XUV700 range between Rs 13.99 lakh and Rs 26.99 lakh, while the Safari is priced from Rs 16.19 lakh to Rs 27.34 lakh (ex-showroom). Both rival each other, along with other cars like the MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar.
