With stricter safety norms coming into play in the automobile sector, carmakers have gradually updated their products with better safety features over time. What used to be just two airbags for the driver and co-driver before has now grown, with standard six airbags becoming common even in entry-level models. But if you want even more protection, here’s a list of cars under Rs 35 lakh in India that come with seven airbags, with one extra for the driver's knee protection.
Price: Rs 23.85 lakh to Rs 26.5 lakh (ex-showroom)
Starting this list with one of the Tata cars, the ones known for their good safety status. The Tata Safari, a popular nameplate from the conglomerate has 7 airbags in two of its top-spec trims: Accomplished and Accomplished Plus. It has also scored a full 5-star rating in the Global NCAP (GNCAP) and Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) crash tests.
Besides, it is also equipped with other safety features like a 360-degree camera and level 2 ADAS. It brings good comfort and convenience with the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.25-inch fully digital driver's display, dual-zone automatic climate control, 10-speaker JBL sound system, wireless phone charger, and powered seats.
What drives the Safari is a 2-litre diesel engine that puts out 170 PS and 350 Nm and is paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

Alongside the Safari, the Tata Harrier tags along to be two of the safest SUVs available in India. The Harrier also comes equipped with 7 airbags in its top-end Fearless Plus variant while the lower-spec gets 6 airbags as standard. It also has its electric iteration almost ready to be launched soon.
The Harrier SUV is loaded with features like a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control, a wireless phone charger, a 10-speaker JBL sound system and a 12.3-inch infotainment. It has also received a 5-star safety rating in the Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP crash tests. For safety it also gets a level-2 ADAS, 360-degree camera and front and rear parking sensors.
It shares a similar 2-litre diesel engine with the Safari with 170 PS and 350 Nm of output and the same manual and automatic transmission options.

Mahindra also boasts a portfolio flexing good levels of safety. The Mahindra XUV700 is a 5-star GNCAP safety-rated SUV offered in six variants out of which the top-spec AX7L is equipped with 7 airbags. This variant also comes equipped with advanced safety features like a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS.
For comfort and convenience, it packs in a 12-speaker Sony 3D sound system, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless phone charger and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold.
The XUV700 gets a 2-litre turbo petrol engine that churns out 200 PS and 380 Nm and a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 185 PS and up to 450 Nm. For transmission, both get the option of either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Additionally, the diesel engine gets the option of all-wheel drive.

The one with a design never seen before, the Mahindra BE 6 is available in a total of five variants out of which the top two trims are loaded with 7 airbags. The other gets 6 as standard. Apart from its stand-out looks, the Mahindra BE 6 also impresses with the things that it offers as well as its 5-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash test.
The key highlights include dual 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and driver’s display, ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof with different lighting patterns, an onboard selfie camera, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, NFC key card access and dual wireless phone chargers.
The Pack 3 Select and Pack 3 of the Mahindra BE 6 are equipped with the larger 79 kWh battery pack that has a claimed range of 682 km. Paired with a rear-wheel drivetrain, the motor churns out 282 PS and 380 Nm of torque. The lower spec trims get the smaller 59 kWh battery pack.

The Mahindra XEV 9e offers seven airbags in its top-spec Pack Three Select and Pack Three variants. Well equipped with other safety essentials like Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, an electronic stability program (ESP) and hill descent control, this Mahindra SUV coupe is the first-ever car to score full marks in Adult occupant safety in the Bharat NCAP crash test. Yes, it achieved a 5-star rating overall.
Inside, it gets a premium cabin with triple 12.3-inch screens (for infotainment, instrument cluster, and co-driver entertainment), a panoramic glass roof, a premium sound system, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, dual wireless phone chargers, and connected car tech.
The XEV 9e shares the same79 kWh battery pack as the BE 6 for these two variants. It has a claimed range of 656 km. Its electric motor produces 286 PS and 380 Nm.
Price: Rs 25.14 lakh to Rs 26.82 lakh (ex-showroom)
The Toyota Innova Crysta is one of the most popular MPVs on our shores. Its one-below-top VX and top-spec ZX trims come equipped with seven airbags. Additional safety features include vehicle stability control and hill-start assist.
For comfort, it offers leather upholstery, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, and captain seats in the second row.
The Innova Crysta is powered by a 2.4-litre diesel engine producing 150 PS and 343 Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
Price: Starts From Rs 35.37 lakh (ex-showroom)
The Toyota Fortuner is a popular full-size SUV famed for having the best road presence for a chunk of Indian buyers. It also gets seven airbags as standard across all its variants. While it is not exactly under the capped budget its starting price is slightly above it, for which we considered adding it to this list.
Alongside other safety features like electronic stability control, traction control, hill-assist control, electronic differential lock, front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera; it offers an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a JBL 11-speaker premium audio system, ventilated and powered front seats, a powered tailgate, ambient lighting and dual-zone climate control.
The Fortuner is powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine churning out 204 PS and 500 Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual or torque converter automatic transmission. A 4-wheel-drive (4WD) option is also available for off-road capability however that is exclusive to the higher-spec only which is priced a lot above the budget. It is also available with a 2.7-litre petrol engine that produces 166 PS and 245 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the diesel variant, the petrol Fortuner is only offered with a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) setup.

The BYD Atto 3 is one of the four EVs in our Chinese neighbour’s portfolio on our shores. Priced a little below the Rs 35 lakh mark is its top-end Superior variant which comes equipped with an extra Far side driver airbag adding to the 6 airbags that are standard.
The other of its comfort, convenience and safety packaging includes a rotating 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, powered and ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, a panoramic sunroof, multi-colour ambient lighting, a premium Dirac sound system, a 360-degree camera and ADAS.
This top variant of the Atto 3 is powered by a 60.48 kWh battery, providing a claimed range of 521 km. The motor delivers 204 PS and 310 Nm of torque, and fast charging support allows the battery to be topped up from 0-80 percent in just 50 minutes.
Price: Rs 17 lakh to Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom)
The list-stopper is the electric debutant from the Indian auto-giant Maruti Suzuki, the e Vitara. It was last showcased at the Auto Expo 2025 in January and is yet to be launched in the market officially. From what we got to know from various sources, the e Vitara will come in three variants: Delta, Zeta and Alpha and all of them will have seven airbags as standard fitment.
It also has a wealth of modern features, which you can consider checking out in this piece. It will get a 48.8 kWh and a 61.1 kWh battery pack paired with a single motor and a front-wheel drivetrain that will churn out up to 172 PS and 192.5 Nm of torque depending on the battery pack you pick. And it is claimed to have over 500 km range with the bigger battery.
Six airbags have become a must-have in cars today – two at the front, two at the sides, and two curtain airbags stretching along the windows to shield you from all angles. But why stop there? A seventh airbag, usually for the driver’s knee, adds an extra layer of protection. With buyers becoming more safety-conscious over time, it has also become a competitive move for carmakers to make their products more appealing.
