Here’s When Mini Will Be Announcing Prices Of New Cooper S And Electric Countryman In India

Mini India is all set to introduce not one, but two new models on our shores on July 24. The cars in question will be the new-generation Cooper S and the all-electric Countryman SE. Pre-launch bookings are underway for both these cars and interested customers can reserve theirs online on Mini’s official website. 

Meanwhile, if you had your eyes on either of these two cars, here’s a quick trivia on what you want to know about them. 

Mini Cooper S

The iconic Mini Cooper S is all set to be introduced in its fifth-generation avatar. At first glance, it’s safe to say that the design language is more of an evolution of the outgoing model. The redesigned grille looks sleeker, while you continue to get the iconic round headlights. The bumper design is more minimalist, giving the fascia a cleaner look. 

The silhouette design is more or less similar to the outgoing car, save for the new wheels. And at the rear, you get new triangular-shaped LED tail lamps with the ‘Union Jack’ motif. 

Powering the new Mini Cooper S is the 2-litre turbo-petrol engine that now produces 204 PS and 300 Nm. That’s an increment of 26PS and 20Nm from the older car. Drive is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. And thanks to the extra horses on tap, 0-100kmph comes up 0.1 second earlier at 6.6 seconds. 

Mini Countryman

The new generation Mini Countryman will be offered in its electric version on our shores initially. An ICE version is expected to be available down the line. Before we talk about specs, here’s a quick overview of its design. Once again, like the Cooper, the third-gen Countryman gets more of an evolutionary design when compared to its predecessor. 

That said, this being an EV gets EV-specific bits such as a closed off grille and aerodynamically designed alloys. It also gets plenty of body cladding all around to give it a nice and tough look. 

As for specifications, it remains to be seen which version Mini plans to bring to India. The base version gets a 204PS single front-wheel drive e-motor, while the top model gets 313PS dual-motors all-wheel drive. Both these are teamed with a 66.5kWh battery pack and have a WLTP-claimed range of up to 460km. 

New Cabin Design Language 

One of the biggest talking points about both the cars is its new interior, which looks super minimalist. The highlight is the new 9.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, through which all the information (including driving info) are displayed here. It has various themes that change different parameters including the ambient lighting. 

Expected Price And Rivals 

In terms of price, we expect the new Mini Cooper S to start around Rs 47 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Countryman could be priced from around Rs 55 lakh. While the Mini Cooper S doesn’t have any direct rivals, the Countryman will go up against the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Volvo XC40 Recharge and Kia EV6.
