The new-generation 2024 Mini Cooper S and Countryman have been launched in India from Rs 44.90 lakh and Rs 54.90 lakh, respectively. The Cooper S comes with a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine, while the Countryman is offered in an EV avatar with a 66.5 kWh battery pack. Bookings for both the cars are underway in India and interested customers can make their reservations on Mini’s official website.
The fifth-generation of the Cooper S retains the familiar silhouette, but gets new styling elements to make it stand out from the previous model. It features a redesigned grille, giving it a sleeker appearance and a minimalist design for the bumper giving it a clean and tidy look upfront. Staying aligned to its roots, it continues to get the iconic round headlights.

From the sides, it gets new wheels, while the rest of the design remains similar to the outgoing model. At the rear, you now get new triangular-shaped LED tail lamps with the ‘Union Jack’ motif.

Under the hood, it comes with a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine that now makes 204 PS and 300 Nm, which is 26 PS and 20 Nm more than the outgoing model. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It can do a 0-100kmph sprint in 6.6 seconds.
The Cooper Countryman will be first available in an all-electric version. Design-wise, it is evolutionary when compared to the previous generation model. It sports EV-specific design cues such as a closed-off grille, and aerodynamic wheels. To give a tougher and slightly dominating look, it gets a lot of body cladding all around.

The rear features vertical LED tail lamps and the “COUNTRYMAN” badging in the centre. It also gets a silver skid plate to add a bit of ruggedness.

The Countryman electric is equipped with a 66.45 kWh battery pack which is paired with a single front-wheel drive e-motor that generates 204 PS. The SUV offers a WLTP-claimed range of up to 462 km. It can be charged from 10-80% in 29 minutes using a DC charger.
Internationally, there is a top-spec variant with 313 PS dual-motors all-wheel drive system.
The minimalist design is carried over to the interior as well for both the cars, which get a similar design layout. The highlight of the cabin is the new 9.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system placed in the centre. It also displays driving info and gets multiple themes that can change various settings including the ambient lighting.

The Cooper S has no rivals as such in the Indian market. The Countryman on the other hand, at its price point, will go up against the BYD Seal, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Volvo XC40 Recharge and Kia EV6.
